Man on the Moon
I’ve been watching a lot of indie-ish films lately with the exception of Scary Movie 4 (which was crap, by the way). Anyway, Bill Murray is a very under appreciated actor - he’s fantastic. Just check out Broken Flowers, Lost in Translation, or even Groundhog Day. They aren’t necessarily comedies except but serious films that are funny in a way. Broke Flowers, for example, is about a man, Bill Murray, finding out that he has a son via an anonymous letter. He shows it to his East Indian friend who Sam Spades it and determines that it was written on a type writer on pink paper, hah. They make a list of women he slept with and he goes off to hopefully find out who the mother was. It’s awkward and funny because of that.
Steve Martin, on the other hand, isn’t that bad of a serious actor either. He wrote a novella called Shopgirl and that made a pretty top notch movie.
Jim Carrey, what a guy. I don’t care if you’re from the Evil Empire, you make some good movies. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a great movie, I never thought sci-fi could end up in a love story. The Truman Show isn’t bad either and Man on the Moon is just good. Made me get the Best of REM album just for the song.
Adam Sandler, you’re messed up. Punch Drunk Love was even more so awkward than, I don’t know, Chris Farrer was.
Movies starring “comedians” in serious roles just seem better.

Bill Murray is the man: He cracked me up in Life Aquatic (although I couldnt stand the Royal Tennenbaums)
Couldnt stand The Truman Show, there is no place in this world for Jim Carey trying to be serious.
And well Adam Sandler, and I can say is, its going down hill
