Stop calling me Mulder.

August 3rd, 2005 | 3 Comments | Posted in Blog, Euro Trip, Music, Rants, Reviews

I’m serious. Stop calling me Mulder. I only talked about the X-Files once or twice, I am not Fox Mulder. But Duchovny was cool when he filmed in my hometown.

I’m listening to Metric’s latest album and so far I’m enjoying it. I may have wanted her to get Auf Der Stage at ACF but now I’ve started appreciating her. I liked the Stars and Broken Social Scene too.

No really, sod off. PISS OFF AND DIE.

Excuse me. I’ve started reading the Interview with the Vampire, I’m quite enjoying but keep getting caught off-guard with Lestats and Louis’ random… mantraction. Seriously serious, nobody warned me about that part. Thanks, guys.

There are going to be at least 400,000 people at the fireworks tonight. This could be interesting. I don’t think I’ll eat anything today or maybe I’ll get something down at the bay. I hope is fracking cold tonight so I can wear shorts. Don’t question my logic, woman.

That reminds me, I was channel surfing and ended up on YTV to watch some strange Japanese show. It turned out to be Gundam Seed and I was like “omgwtfbbqsauce“. I was highly impressed by the guy who punched/slapped the girl in the face. It’s a show of dominance and force, I tells ya. It shows the woman who to respect. That’s right, I approve of that sort of thing. Okay maybe not but it’s funny as hell when it happens on tv.

I got the music videos back online. So bloody watch one even though you’re not a fan. My favourites: the Future is X-Rated, and Weapon.

I believe. The truth is out there.

Tea in the Sahara with you… again

The Vancouver library system is horrible. I’ve got a 14 hour plane ride and nothing to read.

Damn you

The book I wanted is out until the 21st. I’ve finished the Guide series and the latest Potter so I’m screwed. I guess I could grab the first installment of the Anne Rice series but I don’t really like her. I’d bring a laptop but I don’t want it stolen.

This is the first one right?

Doesn’t Tigh from Battlestar Galactica look like Mr. Lahey from the Trailer Park Boys?

What have we done

A random SoaPB reader asked me why I don’t use colour in my “drawings”. Here’s some colour for ya. Some brown and some red.

What have we done

A thought: Wouldn’t you run if you were confronted by a group of armed men in a subway station? You can’t exactly tell apart a plain-clothes police officer from a mugger with a weapon.

Why did he run? Apparently, he had an expired work visa. He was probably afraid of being deported.

Harry Potter and the Mediocre Plot

July 19th, 2005 | 11 Comments | Posted in Blog, Rants, Reviews

Don’t read the following entry if you don’t want to ruin the latest Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince.

First of all, I`d like to say that JK Rowling overused the word incredulous.

We start off with JK’s attempts at humour at the Dursley residence. The whole cups to the head was too much.

Next we learn of Severus’ (Snape) apparent return to the Death Eaters and that Draco Malfoy is ordained by Voldemorte to act out on a dangerous mission. Said mission is likely to result in the death of Draco Malfoy but by the end of the book, no. Snape makes an unbreakable bond with Draco’s mother to protect Draco at all costs. Failure to do so would result in Snape’s death.

Reading in to the book you’ll start to come up with your own theories. One of them that remains surely prevalent in all of you is that Snape is not actually carrying out Voldemorte’s bidding but instead working as a double agent for the Order of the Phoenix. This poses a conundrum as Snape himself performs the “Avada Kadaver” curse that kills Dumbledore. I personally hope that Snape is indeed evil but as JK enjoys her morales, Snape is likely going to fight for The Order by the end of book seven.

Snape is the halfblood prince. I kind of picked this up early on in the book and I’m not too sure on how I came to that but I also assumed that Voldemorte (Tom Marvalo Riddle) could be a likely candidate. Both of them were “half-bloods” meaning they had one “muggle” or “non-magic” parent. I like how JK plays around with the idea of racism in her books.

We learn that Voldemorte has also split his soul into seven parts. These pieces were stored in “horcruxes”. One of the pieces is in Voldemorte as he used it to revive himself, one was in his (Tom Riddle’s) diary, one was in Marvalo’s ring, one was in the Slytherin locket, one is in the Raven Claw cup, yeah I’ve forgotten them. But Harry and Dumby go after the locket which wasn’t actually the real locket. Apparently an R.A.B. took it and disposed of it as he noted in his note in the locket. It is mentioned that horcruxes can also be made from animals! I have a feeling that Harry Potter is a horcux himself for Voldemorte, that would explain a lot. Remember they could share thoughts and feelings at one point?

R.A.B. is most likely Regulus Alphard Black which is Sirius’ brother who as James has pointed out is a deat eater (ex-deat eater?).

So since Sirius Black (Harry’s godfather) died in the previous book, Order of the Phoenix, Harry has inherited Grimwald place. I may have just mispelled that or got it wrong all together. This meaning he’s also gained posession of Kreacher the annoying bastard of a house elf. I’m hoping Harry’s inheritance actually has something to do with book seven as JK didn’t even write the house into the book.

Lot’s of cursing (verbal and magical) in this book which kind of surprised me.

Trewlaney also seems to have disappeared by the end of the novel. She’s not mentioned at Dumbledore’s funeral and she had warned Harry of “the lightning striking the tower” but Harry inadvertently stopped her from telling Dumbledore her warning. This may have resulted in his death actually.

So Malfoy let death eaters into the castle and tried his best to kill Dumbledore but couldn’t. Damn you JK. She’s trying to show that there’s good in everyone. I swear, if she makes book seven’s ending all lovey dovey, I will personally go down to London and urinate on her front porch.

I also kept finding smut hidden throughout the novel. I posted some of it before on this blog. Anyway, she actually used the verb ejaculate which is going to be 100% misconstrued in context. I don’t quite remember who was doing said verb but it was near the end of the book. Apparently they were merely spewing out dialogue.

I sill think Harry is an annoying prat. I also found his accusations at the start to be annoying also and I don’t care whether he was right or not. I also can’t believe that he’d get away with all of the crap he’s done. He bloody cursed someone and virtually cut Draco open with said curse.

On a site note, Draco Malfoy is a whiner and a mamma’s boy.

Sure JK has developed well rounded characters but they’re not exactly the most likable. Neville’s still an idiot and Luna is a fantastic Quidditch commentator.

SLUGHORN was annoying. PRATTLE, PRATTLE. Now if he’s not a boy hungry pedophile then Michael Jackson isn’t either. Okay, maybe he’s not. I just didn’t like him.

It was funny to see that all these underaged kids were also allowed to drink mead.

The book had its moments but I was somewhat disappointed.

Overall, 9.4 out of 10.

ETA: I’ll add more later, maybe.

Dammit, now I have to wait another 2 or 3 years for the next and final Potter novel.

We’ll move on to the reviews after a moment. Let’s recap last night first.
- Ending up at table 19!? Moving to another table… then have that seat stolen by Emily a few hours later. Then move on to another table.
- Semen coffee and Xandi looking foxxy in her dress.
- Lara, Catherine, and Xandi’s dance thing.
- Bump & grid with Dan?
- Too much butter.
- It’s salt not sugar.
- The Titanic interpretive dance which didn’t turn out well.
- Harry Potter speak.
- Catherine getting mad at the Joe Dance.
- A lot of people singing.
- The wrong party… downstairs.
- Hussein being really good at dancing.
- Dan with Order of the Phoenix on tape…
- Some other random crap.
- Enrique is cool.

I haven’t progressed farther than page 175 in the Halfblood Prince but it’s enjoyable so far. I hope Snape is really going to do it.

Anyway, 9×01 of Stargate SG-1 was… interesting. The team broke up and like everyone already knew RDA left. The whole Knights of the Round is stupid. It’s like that old tv show Spellbinder (which nobody watched but Anton). 2×01 of Stargate Atlantis stuck to canon and did the normal boom boom bang bang. They’ve rid themselves of Mr. Rainbow Sunfranks though :(. I can’t spell his name properly, forgive me Rainbow. They’ve also cut down the show title montages to about… 3 seconds. Way to cost cut.

Now for Battlestar Galactica! It’s still awesome but my copy of 2×01 is atrocious. The sound is off by almost a minute after the first five minutes. I’ve got to find another copy.

London Bombings

July 7th, 2005 | 1 Comment | Posted in Blog, Political, Rants

Our world has gone to shit. Not long ago we had a Canadian boy, a baby, shot in the head and killed. Not long before that, children killed in a Russian hostage situation. An attack on Spain’s train system, the attacks on September 11th, 2001, and now this.

Thirty-seven people have been confirmed dead as of now. Over seven-hundred people are reported injured, some seriously. Their injuries vary from smoke inhalation, burns, to severed limbs. It was first believed to have been some sort of power surge in the train system but police later discovered traces of explosive materials and that a packed double-decker bus had been destroyed.

* Between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street subway stations. (7 dead)
* Between Russell Square and King’s Cross subway stations. (21 dead)
* At Edgware Road subway station. (5 dead)
* On a bus at Woburn Place near Tavistock Square. (2 dead)

The slaughter of innocents will not achieve anything. It only lessens whatever credibility you’ve had before. If you haven’t found out yet, an al-Qaeda-linked group has claimed responsibility for this. It still hasn’t been verified but their is a great chance of it being them again.

A CBC timeline:

8:49 a.m. British transport police receive report on incident on Metropolitan Line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate.

9:15 a.m. Media reports say explosion reported and emergency services headed to Liverpool Street Station.

9:24 a.m. Transport police say cause of emergency could be a collision of two trains, a power cut, or an exploded power cable. Police report some minor injuries.

9:33 a.m. London Underground shut down. Passengers told a power fault across network is to blame.

9:33 a.m. Another incident at Edgware Road Station reported.

9:40 a.m. Transport police report power surge incidents at five Underground stations: Aldgate, Edgware Road, King’s Cross, Old Street and Russell Square.

10:02 a.m. Scotland Yard says it is responding to a major incident.

10:14 a.m. Reports of a bus torn apart by an explosion in central London.

10:21 a.m. Scotland Yard says there have been multiple explosions in London.

10:23 a.m. Transport police confirm explosion on a bus at Tavistock Place.

10:25 a.m. BBC says British Prime Minister Tony Blair, in Scotland for G-8 summit, is unsure if explosions are terrorist attack.

10:25 a.m. Two buses reported damaged in explosion. Eyewitnesses say a double-decker bus was blown into the air.

10:25 a.m. Transport union reports three explosions on buses.

10:39 a.m. All hospitals in London put on major incident alert.

10:49 a.m. Police report serious casualties, but don’t confirm any deaths.

10:51 a.m. Police say two trains stuck in tunnels at Edgware Road. Passenger says he saw bodies in the wreckage.

10:55 a.m. Reuters reports at least 90 casualties at Aldgate Station.

11:26 a.m. European Parliament President Josep Burrell blames terrorism for co-ordinated attacks and “confirmed deaths.”

11:30 a.m. Signs on highways into London issue warning: “Avoid London. Area Closed. Turn on Radio.”

12:39 p.m. Reuters reports that an unknown group calling itself the Secret Group of al-Qaeda’s Jihad in Europe issues statement on website claiming responsibility for attack.

12:57 p.m. Home Secretary Charles Clarke confirms four explosions, three in subways, one on a bus.

1:00 p.m. G-8 leaders meeting in Scotland condemn attacks and say they will remain united in fight against terrorism.

1:42 p.m. London police official says traces of explosives found at two blast sites.

2:12 p.m. A U.S. law enforcement official says at least 40 people were killed.

3:27 p.m. London police confirm 33 fatalities from three explosions in the underground.

3:29 p.m. London Ambulance Service officials say 45 people are seriously injured.

The bus and train systems have been shut down today for further investigation and security reasons. Over three million people take the Underground system everyday. Thankfully only a small percentage of them were injured today. Let’s hope our brothers and sisters in the UK can find out those responsible for this and make sure that it never happens again. Like Matt said earlier today, people shouldn’t have to be afraid to take the bus or the train. What kind of garbage is this anyway? Leave the people alone, they have nothing to do with the “capitalist exploitation”.

Canada seems to have also been threatened but that’s not a certainty. We should expect to see tighter security on our public transit systems. The terrorists are getting exactly what they want now. The whole world’s afraid again.

Wow, me and Antony actually beat up a wall. Then it killed us, fucker.

War of the Worlds

War of the Worlds brought me great sadness and I likely brought Nuisance great sadness with my lame jokes throughout the movie. By the way, Happy Birthday Andrew Wong.

#1 The whole thing with Tom Cruise’s son, Robbie, was stupid and ruined the movie.
#2 The aliens looked weak and I could have easily beat the shit out of them with 1 arm.
#3 They kept calling the alien spacecraft tripods. They looked more like squid.
#4 The metal tentacles were fucking awesome.
#5 I liked how they kept the probe.
#6 What the fuck was with the roots?
#7 *Loud blast of horn* *excrement of fluid* (ahahahaha)
#8 The ending was pretty much the same as the originals.
#9 SARS
#10 Tom Cruise, in general, ruined the movie.

Sally the bear tried to kill everyone today but I wrestled it and saved the day. DANCE!
