  1. Hi friends - It's probably been almost a decade since I've signed in here. I was going through some music that used to listen too, reflecting on how much my life has changed, and landed back on Matt's earlier stuff, and pretty soon I found myself playing certain songs over and over again, rediscovering the intricacies of Matt's lyrical work; one of the major draws of his work for me. Anyhow, I do write music from time to time, and I found myself wanting to do a 'Matthew Good'ish' piece. After a few days, I settled on a subject matter, pulled out all of my favorite MG tropes, and banged something out. I do hope you guys enjoy - Please let me know what you think!
  2. You are correct! ;) I tried to keep it descrete during the concert, and maybe take a video, but the security guards saw me too early!!! ;(
  3. Hey guys - I think I'm a week behind...I just wanted to share half dozen shots I took at the Hamilton show...before they asked me to put my camera away... http://www.flickr.com/photos/lyuan/sets/72157623022567576/ Cheers and Happy Holidays! Larry
  4. Just finished my 3rd listen of Vancouver, and I must say, I'm REALLY enjoying the album - My favorite track right now is 'Vancouver National Anthem' - I love the little guitar arpeggio theme and the whole mood of the song! Anyhow, I bought a physical CD, and noticed a huge '64' silk screened onto the CD - Anyone know the importance of that number with relation to the album and it's themes? L.
  5. I am using an iPhone 3Gs with the 3.01 firmware. I can play QuickTime stuff fine it seems.
  6. Hey guys, Has anyone tried streaming Vancouver using the iPhone or iPod touch? I'm trying to, but every time I click on the link header in Safari, I get a bunch of junk on the screen. Is there a specific program I need to get in order to stream .m4a? Thanks
  7. Here's a link to the Johnny Cash video with Trent Reznor's thoughts on the cover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlzjqPGdOSM IMHO, probably one of the best (fitting) covers I've ever heard. I'm also a fan of Tori Amos' cover of Smells like Teen Spirit....! L.
  8. I was on the very right, at the front as well - OMG we were standing next to each other! There were a few parts in which the band drowned out Matt's voice. The overall effect though was pretty awesome - It was a live show, so the accoustics are going to be a bit off. I preffered it much more than the Massey Hall seated show, even though I could hear him no problem in that one. L.
  9. Gomo - Just fly JetBlue up to buffalo and drive up!!! That's how I get to NYC!
  10. As expected, the setlist was quite similar to the one Matt's been playing so far on the tour... I didn't expect the extended encore though: Giant, Avalanche, and then She's in it For the Money and Everything is Automatic. THEN followed by accoustic versions of Strange Days and True Love Will Find You In The End... And, as expected, Matt put on a terrific show...!!! Highlights for me included 'Champions of Nothing', which was a fantastic way of opening the show. What a GREAT song to hear live! I also really enjoyed the new full-band version of Apparitions and of course Weapon. I would also like to give a shout out to the dude sitting in front and centre in the 1st balcony who randomly got up to dance and give 'peace' signals to Matt. It was great to see so much enthusiasm ;). Compared the the shows I've been to, I think I prefer the Mod Club / Phoenix / Kool Haus shows (standing room), as it lets the crowd get into it a bit more. Massey Hall is more fitting for his accoustic tour. With the band, there's just some songs that made you want to jump up and down, but you think twice out of courtesy for people behind you. All-in-all a fantastic show, and I hope to see Matt back in Toronto sooner rather than later! Bravo!! L. ** Edited for grammar
  11. Hey guys, One of my friends who's bought tickets to the show at Massey Hall can't make it anymore - They're a pair of tickets that's on the first row of the 2nd Balconey. If anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll put you in contact. Cheers, L.

    Live Cd Coming!

I'm sorry - I just got excited, and I'm not on the site 24/7, so if it's been on there for 6 hours, great. It doesn't make it any less awesome! L.
  14. I just read over on Matt's blog that he was 'contemplating' on recording the Massey Hall show for a live CD.... LIVE CD... OMFG. That is all
  15. Ok guys - I've posted the two uploads onto an FTP, so they should be up there. Any new submissions will be posted up there as well (with permission of the artist of course). Cheers, Larry Hopeless Strange Days
  16. I've done it with myself singing plus the guitar - I'd have to re-write the violin parts so that it's not entirely in unison with the vocals the whole time, but doable. I think what I need here is recording equipment. I'm pretty tech savvy, but not on the music side of things, so I'm not sure what I'd need to pick up. L.
  17. I can put that file up where I put up 'Strange Days' if you want. L.
  18. Thank you all for the complements - Right now, I'm more excited to get the album done, so we can send the whole thing to him ;) How would we actually get songs to him? Are we going to use his e-mail on his web site? Or we can send him a facebook message inviting him here.... @Max Marv: I really liked your cover of Hopeless!!!!! I think you should keep it as is - every instrument and harmony is distinquishable, so it's got a nice, sharp sound. Very catchy! L.
  19. It was actually 4 people: I was on the piano. There was a guitar, and a pair of violins as well. I always heard the chorus to Strange Days as how I arranged it in the second half of the 2nd chorus of the recording, where the melody splits into two, and the higher voice offering a nice climax. Matt's phrasing on the song lends itself so beautifully to it, so I think most of the arrangement was just trying to build to that point. Anyhow, again - I'm going try my best to actually score the thing on paper and maybe I can re-record it at a better place. This recording was done from one mic at the Isabelle Bader Theatre in T.O. a few years back... Maybe if any of you are in Toronto, we can actually record a few other songs??? ;) Jam session would be sweet! L.
  20. Thanks for the positive comments guys...I really wish the sound quality was a bit (a LOT) better though :/ @Champion - maybe we can the visual artists here to do a painting/illustration/photo, so we can have one for each song??? Sorta a la Peter Gabriel's 'US' album... L.
  21. Strange Days (Instrumental) Here's a song that I submitted. It's an instrumental arrangement of 'Strange Days' that we performed live a few years back. It was recorded live, so the quality isn't that great. You can hear the magnetic tape catch in the middle somewhere. I'd love to be able to re-record this as I wasn't too crazy about the guitar intro (maybe I can edit it out). Perhaps this can be a B-Side to the album? ;) http://www.ninjastars.ca/songs/Song.mp3 L.
  22. How much material do you have so far? I sorta wanna hear what people have... L.
  23. I have a recording that I did a while back of a piano/violin arrangement of 'Strange Days' that I did, and would hapilly donate.
  24. Totally agree with the happiness... I think the only work I could use to describe his performance is 'unstoppable'. L
