I used to think they were a bit of a joke, because the lead singer seems like a lame-o, and their singles from and after Title of Record were pretty gay (but I liked them, and still have them stuck in my head). Hey Man Nice Shot was a sort of in joke for me, but recently I went back and listened to it again and it was pretty rockin'. The post accomplished nothing.

i think richard patrick is a decent vocalist, but i don't think he writes very good music. i'm somewhat looking forward to hearing what he did with wes borland, based on their previous collaboration in the damning well. although given' borland's own musical ventures as of late, perhaps i shouldn't be THAT excited.

where does he get off comparing himself to al jourgensen (who just disbanded ministry- way to use a dated example), or again mentioning NIN as though he were some integral part of that band? as far as i know, he contributed one guitar part to pretty hate machine. the liner notes say exactly this:

"drone guitar at end of sanctified. richard patrick"

hilarious. that about sums it up, trent.

Actually, Richard really knows how to write music. Title of Record is all you need to hear to see his music writing abilities. Also Amalgamut, but I can see that not being as good of an example. Short Bus is great with the strong distinct Filter sound but can get to be a bit much for me at times with all the screaming and whatnot. TOR really mixed everything up excellently and showed an overall drastic improvement. I think Amalgamut is a refreshingly different sound somehow yet still has many classic Filter elements. Where does he get off comparing? Well I don't know about Al Jourgensen but as far as Nine Inch Nails goes, I think he gets off comparing very well as I think NIN is overrated and they don't really interest me at all (yes I've heard some of their music). And I'm sure Filter's music would appeal to me more than Ministry's as well.

i have heard it. that's what i'm basing my argument on: the fact that i've heard his music and disliked it. i take it you're not very good at arguing?

which are???? i have a bit of a problem with people who don't take the time to even put to words what it is that they like/dislike about an artist.

how does the fact that they don't interest you prove your point? he gets off comparing himself to NIN because NIN doesn't really interest you at all?? did you bother reading what you typed before you hit the 'add reply' button?

And I'm sure Filter's music would appeal to me more than Ministry's as well.

even though you haven't heard it or know what they sound like at all, you're more than certain that filter appeal to you more. wow, richard patrick really is a great songwriter. i'm convinced.

I had/have no intention of arguing and am not trying to prove a damn thing. I said my opinion. It's not my problem if you don't know quality songwriting when you hear it. I am not going to argue with you and if you want to be a bitch about it I won't reply anymore.

I could be very wrong but I though patrick was the live musican for nin and worked with nin/reznor until the downward spiral.

anyway...filter is decent enough. short bus and title are good. Personally I like the slower filter songs excluding the big hit. amaamadnadaglut is decent. army of anyone while having a fairly similar sound just bores me to death.

give me a break. you responded to my post! why can't i respond to yours? you say that you aren't trying to prove a thing, and yet you say something as retarded as "It's not my problem if you don't know quality songwriting when you hear it." am i supposed to just let comments like those fly? why are you suddenly insulting my taste in music? can't i have a different opinion? especially seeing as how i've listened to the music and then formed my opinion, as opposed to your musical-opinion-through-magic method which i haven't fully grasped yet.

don't take "arguing" to be such a negative thing. clearly you like this band. clearly, i do not. let's talk. your comment didn't make sense and i was merely pointing that out. actually, your entire post didn't make much sense.

if you want to be a bitch about it I won't reply anymore.

;)   (8) (8) (8)

you're the one who's getting all moody and defensive.

yes, but he wasn't apart of any of the recording processes. he did appear in the music videos, though! handsome devil. liner notes!!! he should've at least appeared on broken, but wasn't involved at all as far as i can tell.

I am not saying you can't have a different opinion. I am saying in my opinion it is high quality songwriting and if you don't see it as that, it's not my problem. I'm sure I wouldn't see some of your music tastes as quality songwriting so you could say the same thing about that. I did reply to your post but I was also just stating my opinion. I am not getting defensive, it was you who came across as defensive for no reason when I wasn't trying to start an argument at all. I was simply talking about what this thread is for in response to what you said which the last time I checked wasn't illegal.

it makes me wanna go away

until you think it's over

i just...

yeah yeah yeah

edit: and the verses of that song are worse. it's like he just throws words in cuz they rhyme. same deal with 'miss blue'. and i still enjoy both songs. fuckin' weird.
