Audio Of Being

Recommended Posts

Easily one of my favourite albums ever made. Could listen to it at any time, any day... and still love it.

Man of Action needs to get played live, for the sake of the fans Matt!!! At least once... would be a perfect first song for the encore.

What's everyone's favourite track from the Audio of Being? Do you think the b-sides should have been on the album?

Sort of a Protest Song is easily my favorite song EVER.

The b-sides probably would have fit with the album (All Together moreso than Pony Boy in my opinion), but the album is what it is, and even after all this time, I still get chills listening to it.

Guest Prosis

Man of Action, The Rat Who Would Be King and Sort of a Protest Song...three of Matt's best songs ever!

My only problem with AOB is its heterogeneity...but it has so many great songs.

It include I, The Throw Away and Truffle Pigs, two of my favorite Matt songs ever. The album is strong from start to finish, and even includes one of my favorite lyrics of all time.

If I roast marshmallows over their bodies do you think God will still find their souls?

I love that lyric, too, Audio of Being!

And I think the heterogeneity (don't know if it's proper to call an album that, but I know what you mean Prosis) is an effect of the times. Also it sort of makes it like a concept album, which is neat.

I thank that Anti-Pop is the only one that really shakes it up and doesn't sound so dark. The theme is also less dark, so maybe All Together would fit better instead. [They've said Pony Boy didn't make the album because it was too similar to Anti-Pop, so.. I wouldn't put it on the album]. I wouldn't take it Anti-Pop out, though, because the video is where MG and Dale Earnhardt Jr. met!

My favourite song is on there - Truffle Pigs. Honestly it's my favourite MGB era album. The strife made it better, imo.

I think this is one of the most underrated albums of all time. I wouldnt even remotely call him hugely popular here in Philadelphia (I heard of him when I had MuchMusic back in my Directv days), and I have friends who have NO idea who he is and why I have all these cds "from this guy they've never heard of". The shame of radio here in Philly I guess. Anyhow, I was BLOWN AWAY by this album and lent it to a friend of mine literally the week it came out and said to him "YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS".

An hour and a half later he called me back and said "Are you fucking kidding me? Radio wont play this guy? Bring those other cds you have over".

Two fans in Philly now ;)

Audio Of Being, Beautiful Midnight, and Avalanche are some of the best albums I have ever heard. It is still astonishing to me that Man Of Action, Truffle Pigs, I, The Throw Away, Advertising On Police Cars and Sort Of A Protest Song ARE ON THE SAME FRIGGIN ALBUM.

And, forgive my ignorance, but other than the aforementioned Pony Boy...what were the other bsides for this album?

The other bside is called "All together." It's a really slow and depressing feeling song.

Glad that you recruited some Philly fans. ^^ Only radio I've heard him on is the XM radio station Squizz, and that's just "Hello Time Bomb." >.<

"All Together"? Good lord I have never even heard of this song. is it available anywhere (the NF store maybe?)

Where is "Comfortable Criminals" and "Annabelle" from?

Just "Hello Time Bomb"? Jeez, I thought AT LEAST they might play "Strange Days"...one of my favorite songs ever by any artist and one that was a big hit

Yea, we WERE really psychjed to see him in Philly this coming Wednesday but I see he is cancelling shows all over the place so I am not sure if he's going to appear or not

My favorite is Advertising on Police Cars, but Sort of a Protest Song comes close. Police cars is one of my favorite songs ever, but I still didn't like it as much as the stuff from Avalanche.

I'm just sad AOB isn't played more by Matt, at least at those I've been too I haven't heard him perform anything outside Sort of a Protest Song.

He played "The Rat Who Would Be King", "Carmelina" and "Advertising on Police Cars" during the last full band tour.

beerman, Comfortable Criminals was recorded during the Avalanche sessions, but Matt didn't like it, so he scrapped everything but the drum track, which became the basis for "A Long Way Down". Annabelle I believe was originally recorded around the same time, then simplified and stripped of a lot of instrumentation, rerecording for White Light, cut, and then released on the Amnesty Canada website and for free.

Also, Pony Boy was originally recorded after the Beautiful Midnight sessions, and Ian Browne was the only MGB member other than Matt to play on the song.

According to my playlist's counter I like "The Fall Of Men" the most (14 plays??? - ;) wow!) - The only MG- metal-like-song, and how it rocks!!

I personally would say I really dig "Tripoli" and "Advertising On Police Cars" - but my computer knows probably best!

This song is the most under-rated on the album for sure... never hear anyone talk of it.

I love that song. One of my favorites.

I know it's not really his nature, but Matt could make a killing if he ever did one show... one, where he played all of Audio of Being, start to finish and recorded it. Maybe throwing in some demos as an encore if he felt frisky. Release that as a CD/Itunes Exclusive on his site, and the base will eat it up. He'd make a huge portion of his fan base pretty much drop to their knees with thanks. Not only because he'll finally play songs that many have only dreamed of hearing, but we'll finally have an official Matt Good live CD. Plus he'd make a pretty good chunk of change in the process (tickets are a sure sell out at any price, and the CD will blow up among the dedicated fan base).

Ahh to dream...

"All Together" was an Audio of Being B-side. It doesn't look to be in the store. I'm pretty sure I first found it on Kazaa, but I'll PM you.

All together is a great song. It would be cool to have it on an album in the future.

Advertising on police cars, Sort of a protest song, man of action are my favorites, but there are really so many great songs on that album.
