Outrage In Saskatoon

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council released its decision concerning the afternoon broadcast of the song "Load Me Up" by Matthew Good Band, which included the f-word, on CJDJ-FM (Rock 102, Saskatoon). The CBSC's Prairie Regional Panel concluded that the broadcast violated the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Code of Ethics, but commended the station for the measures it took to resolve the issue.

Oh Saskatchewan.

on one of the radio stations here, they completely edited "It seems so practiced, me fucking this up" out of the song. I don't know why they couldn't just blank out the one word but hey, thats censorship for ya

That is so fucking silly, that's like when MTV wouldn't play Tool videos before midnight. When you alter a song, by blanking out words, and whole frigging lines...shouldn't that be construed as a violation of intellectual property? Most of you are too young to remember Tipper Gore's PMRC(Parent's Music Resource Center) Thanks to her, we have those lovely little stickers on CDs with "explicit" content. Talk about a blight on humanity. Having said that, Al Gore is an alright cat.

What I love the most is the censoring they applied on the video for Last Resort of Papa Roach.

The lyrics went:

"Cut my life into pieces, this is my ________ (which was "last resort")

Suffocation, not breathing"

Way to aim left of the target...

I'm okay with the explicit content labels on albums, because if, for example the parents are buying the cd for a child, or are considering it, then they at least have an idea of what to expect, just like with movie and video game ratings.

The funny thing was that those little stickers in their own right pretty much became the anti-napster. CD's were flying off the shelves because they had those little stickers on them. When I was twelve it was cool when there was the f-word in your favorite songs.

Things are a little different now, though. Have you ever played Call of Duty online and have had to mute or report a nine year old because what he was saying was so offensive it made you uncomfortable?

Well, this is wierd to see this thread name, because all day today I have been shaking my head at the edited version of Everything is Automatic, that I heard on Cfox today.... omfg, i'm sure if they could air the original, they would... but sensorship in canada is re-dick.. I don't think I have ever heard 'Automatic on radio before. that was wierd to hear the edit job.. not big on it.
