Just to nit pick, web pages technically aren't software by the most pure definition... the software exists in the rendering, and the serving.

 

I agree that you can find things by searching... I would also content that the new layout had changed a lot of the user paths... meaning that almost all actions feel new. The obvious repercussion is that people who have been using the site for a while feel slightly taken for a ride.

 

I hate the "Web 2.0" look... and java script generally spells hell when AJAX shits it's pants.

i have no problem with the new design. it may take some getting used to for some people, but it works fine and i'm very grateful to have all those hideous applications tucked away.

I don't think that the real issue is that it's not functional. The issue is that people don't like change. For example, when Dr Pepper changed their logo, I stopped drinking a twelve pack every second day because it didn't feel the same anymore.

the fact that humans are creatures of habit and reluctant to change is pretty disappointing. life is change, fuck.

I hardly agree. The changes in our lives rarely cause us to need to develop new habits. I this habit forming allows us to get certain tasks done with minimal effort. Our objection to change would be (in my opinion) the way we notices that things have changed... It gives us a signal to asses the situation. Blind change is also bad.
