Underdogs On My Ipod

Recommended Posts

The majority of Underdogs doesn't work right on my iTunes or my iPod. It worked fine when I used Windows Media Player but since I got my iPod songs will cut out partway through (middle class gangsters) or not play at all (the inescapable us) and I don't know why. I've tried deleting the album and re-ripping and it still does it. anyone else have this problem?

Couple of questions:

Do the tracks play OK in iTunes?

What format are they ripped to?

What kind of iPod and Gen (or at least when did you get it)?

I've never had a problem, but I don't doubt that they exist. I always rip to 196Kb AAC. iTunes' MP3 encoding support is less that awesome. AAC is always safe for iTunes and iPod consumption (but often useless for others).

When I was using iTunes on my desktop PC with my ipod nano, I had the same problem with a few Sigur Ros songs, a song by Stars and a song by Neverending White Lights, and no matter what I tried to do, I couldn't fix them.

Since switching to a MacBook and putting all my music on it, I have had no problems at all.

Maybe try uninstalling and then reinstalling itunes and seeing if that helps.

if you're ripping something from one format to another for use on something that is designed to use it's own unique format, i'd call that at least some form of piracy.

my theory on copying something that you own and paid for legitimately from 1 format to another is that it is perfectly okay.

I mean how would you feel if you bought a new car and then found out you could only drive it on Avenues, so you have to buy another car to drive on streets, and another car to take on the highways? Crazy right?

I firmly believe that record companies probably understand that the argument that you should have to rebuy songs over and over again is crazy, but they see it as way to increase their profits.

an analogy only works if you're comparing like instances. take your avenues and highways and replace them with terrain based routes then you'll have yourself a proper comparison. not so crazy to think you need a different vehicle to go over rocks and through mud than the one that will get you back and forth to work. but thats semantics, and i hear what you're saying.

i just think the the itunes music player and ipod were designed to be used to play songs and albums purchased from their library, and if you're going to take steps to change that process, you should expect issues some of the time. in order to avoid these issues, i've vowed to use only what is offered and request what isn't. in the end, who suffers the most? me, or the artist/label that just lost another sale?

it's just music afterall, and with evolution of playback, i think the artist should be rewarded for their work at every level. you're essentially upgrading your experience at the artists expense. it's offered in many formats yet you choose one and reap the benefits of all. you want the cd? buy it. you want to play it on itunes? buy it.

Totally false. iTunes is not designed to be content linked to the items in the iTunes store. iTunes and iPod both existed prior to the introduction of that feature.

That said, the problem is likely with the track encoding, or the quicktime version.

I had the same problem on my macbook with every track after Prime Time Deliverance. They would crackle, cut out or oddly skip.

I simply deleted and re-ripped Underdogs and they play like a charm now. Only CD that's ever caused me that problem out of 10,000 + music library.

Just try re-ripping it. Should work fine.

And winn23, if you mean the album art won't carry over it's because iTunes stores the art in a separate folder then where your music is stored in most cases. It's not actually embedded into the id tags.

Underdogs is the only MG cd I don't own... am I missing out?

Whoa, for a minute there I thought you said Underdogs is the only MG CD you *do* own. Then my answer would have been a horrified "yes"!

There are a few songs on Underdogs I always skip, but I'd say it's worth owning for Prime Time Deliverance at least. Also, if you like Matt's more upbeat songs, it's got a few great ones that never became singles. And you don't have Everything Is Automatic, Apparitions, Rico, or Indestructible? Really?

Okay, having gone through the archives very briefly, I don't think this has been asked before.

Does anyone know who Duffy is? I'm taking this from the last line of Invasion 1. I recall that in one of his manifestos, his old man addressed him as Duffy. The reason I ask is that it's my sirname, so it's always intrigued me.
