Fall Tour Setlist

Recommended Posts

Given Matt's most recent post regarding the upcoming tour, I thought it would be fun to ask what songs you would choose, in what order, with Matt's specs of 6-7 Vancouver songs, and 7-9 back catalogue tracks. I haven't put a list together yet, but please share yours. Who knows, he may read this thread at some point and take notes.

Not exactly what's requested in the topic, but I really think that Matt should consider doing a main set, then a four to five song solo acoustic set, then a final full-band encore. He'd be able to focus the band on certain songs while adding more spontanaeity. I saw Paul McCartney this summer, and the brief solo acoustic set he did was one of the highlights of the show.

I mainly just hope the 7-9 songs from his back catalouge aren't just singles. Obviously Hello Time Bomb, Weapon, Strange Days, and Apparitions will be played so there's really only 3-5 tunes that could be non single tracks from previous releases. And even then I'm sure Born Losers will be a staple in the setlist as well.

Don't get me wrong, I really like these songs and they're always wicked live but it would be really cool to hear more than one or two of some of your favourites from previous releases.

I'm sure this will still be an awesome show though. I've been trying to refrain from listening to the album before it's release and so far it's worked. Based on everyone's reactions so far it'll be pretty wicked having 50% of the set dedicated to the new stuff.

Man of Action

please for god just play MOA live this tour matt.

this

listening to beautiful midnight as much as i have been the last few months really gives you an appreciation for how much his voice improved. on beautiful midnight the highest note i can think of matt singing is a high e flat and he seemed to be struggling on some of those, but on man of action he hits a G above that and it just soars (the last "you can disappear"). then there is rat who would be king which shows incredible vocal control.

They could walk out, play Rat and shut it down, and I would go home happy.

edit: NF as the encore of course.

Well I am really stoked to see the Vancouver stuff live, I think it will make for an awesome show. But yeah, as posted above, you have to factor in that Time Bomb, Load Me Up, Weapon and Apparitions are a given. So that takes it down to 3-5 real back catalogue songs. Not that I have a problem with those songs being played, they are staples for a reason. Although I think it would be cool if Matt took one of Time Bomb or Load Me Up each night, I think that would make sense. It also depends on the show, I think on the last tour there were shows that they played as few as 14 or 15 songs, but in Toronto and Vancouver they played 20. Which I actually don't really agree with, I think if you are going to put on a big show with two encores in the big venues, they should do it for everyone. But I'm sure there was some reason for it, like how long they had the venues for etc. Anyway here would be my setlist for the max amount of songs they would play (20), even though that is probably a little unrealistic.

Last Parade

The Boy Who Could Explode

Great Whales of the Sea

Weapon

Load Me Up

The Vancouver National Anthem

Alert Status Red

Us Remains Impossible

I'm a Window

Born Losers

On Nights Like Tonight

A Silent Army In the Trees

Apparitions

Empty's Theme Park

Giant

Symbolistic White Walls

Near Fantastica

Avalanche

Strange Days (Acoustic)

The Fine Art of Falling Apart (Acoustic)

Running For Home and Generation X-Wing are two songs I'd like to hear. I remember Matt mentioning in a blog post last year the amount of songs he and the band could play depended on the time they rehearsed and how much they already knew. So I'm definitely hoping we get a more varied setlist this time around = )

What I don't understand is why he has to go all the way to Toronto to rehearse with the band... Last tour it kind of made sense because they were starting over there. But this one they are starting in BC. Seems kind of odd to me.

Matt mentioned on CFOX that they are rehearsing in Abbotsford for a few days before the tour begins, but it is kind of weird, even if the guys live out east, to split the time. His choice I guess.

It would be killer if he busted out some solo "Go Fly Blind"

Also, I really think the new songs with the band are going to sound a lot better than the Hospital Music stuff, so I wouldn't mind hearing them play the majority of Vancouver, to be perfectly honest.

I really hate seeing Load Me Up live. Timebomb isn't as bad when he has the slow extended ending, but I am so tired of those songs. I understand why he has to play them but I mean I am pretty sure most of his fanbase is pretty hardcore and could do without those songs.
