Nationofcool: Vocal Information Thread

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I thought that this may be of interest to some people here on the board. This is a thread from the NOC board that dates back to 2003. I printed this off and have had it in my own vocal file for, I guess, the past 6 years. I hope that the jpegs show up on here. I guess, feel free to start the discussion over again should you want to get into the details.

Also feel free to save these jpegs for your own files and reference.

Cheers to all.

thanks a lot,

any idea what she is referring to when she says "watch what he does with his consonants?

My guess is how he carries consonants. It can definitely work in some instances, but I notice it on Matt's older records all of the time. I mean, the guy improved his vocal abilities as his career progressed. He has moved further away from his older vocal style these days. You hear it a lot on the "D"; as an example "and I yadda yadda..." Matt might sing, "ann DIE yadda yadda". Ds and Ts become a part of the next word in the sentence. There are, however, more tricks to singing consonants. A lot of the letters have their own tricks for the best enunciation. Matt has really good enunciation. It's not easy.

Yeah for the most part he enunciates very well. An example of the "d" thing in his older work is on Deep Six: "and I don't know where you think you are" becomes " die don't know..."
