Re: The Comment (split From Tour Thread)

Recommended Posts

Well he is famous (infamous?) for deleting posts, switching off comments, etc. He probably felt it wasn't worth the hassle. I personally think the post had some good points (which I can no longer cite, should have known to save it), and as someone else said, I'm not defending "The Comment", but it's not like I didn't see something like that coming. Dude works his ass off, sees thread, loses temper. He's human. As for him implying that our opinions don't matter, I wouldn't take too much stock in anything said in "The Comment".

Yeah, but as a musician with such a passionate core following, isn't it kind of a compliment that people want to hear your more rare stuff? I mean, as a Pearl Jam fan, as good as Black or Jeremy or Even Flow is, they've played that shit hundreds of times. I'm sure it's more fun to play something like No Way or Smile or something like that and it's probably a compliment to hear "play that rare shit" instead of "HAY PLAY THOSE HITS WE ALL KNOW THE WORDS TO BECAUSE THEY GOT RADIO PLAY".

Don't get me wrong, there's a place for the hits too, but I guess it's in how you look at it. Matt saw it as people being unhappy with the performance or whatever when really I don't think any of us were unhappy with the performances we saw...It was great to hear the new stuff live and as much as I'd rather hear something like Failing The Rorschach Test or Raygun instead of Apparitions, I still had a blast. It's natural, though, Matt is one of my favourite artists...I've listened to every album front to back numerous times...Of course I'm going to want to hear some of the stuff I haven't.

Sure, I would see it as a compliment, but I'm not Matt Good, so I can't say for sure how he sees it. All I can do is guess that he misconstrued people's comments as unfair criticism when people were just saying they liked it, but were wishing for more songs and different songs, as fans often do (which, as a fan, I totally get). Was he in a bad mood? Who knows. All I'm saying is that anything in "the comment" shouldn't be taken personally, it was already mentioned he said "it was a stupid thing to post".

On an unrelated note (to the thread anyway) I love No Way and Smile but I think in a contest of rare Pearl Jam tracks I'd like to hear Present Tense would win.

I saw Present Tense in Hamilton!

Sweet! (totally veering off-topic) Fatal and Down are stuck in my head too. Actually anything from Lost Dogs would be sweet live (even though there's one on there that's played pretty often).

yeah, that Hamilton show they played a few from it... Sad / You / Yellow Led

was the best show i've seen them play. eddie went through 3 bottles of red wine, he got a bit smashed, they covered "harvest moon" for the first time ever at that show and it was broadcasted to Eddie's best friends wedding in Seattle as a wedding song for them. Had us all say "good luck" to the bride/groom. Terrific night.

I'll see if i can find a clip of it on youtube.

Sounds like a pretty awesome show, with some great moments.

Edit: and now we have a Pearl Jam thread in the MG forum lol
