so I thought I would bring back this topic back. What is the worst job you ever had?

I've had a couple, working retail is shitty for anyone. done that a few times, cold calling was worse, sometimes. So what do you got?

and these are not jobs that I was the worst at, they're jobs that just sucked all around.

Out of the few jobs I've worked (service clerk, then cashier and back up supervisor at a grocery store, telephone operator, and now customer care billing agent for a cable company), by far the worst was the operator job.

I was part of a team of 6 other people, sometimes only 3 or 4, who were required to sort bottles, cans, glass, and garbage out of a big pile . I think my worst one was doing telecom work, pulling wire through ceilings and dropping down walls... it was always just so funky.

 

Oh, that and a certain fried chicken chain when I was 16. I came home stinking of it everyday for 4 months.

Framing houses with modern mennonites. The work itself was quite enjoyable. But the boss refused to look for our next job until we completed our current one, the co-workers continually lectured me about living in sin (I smoke, and was living out of wedlock with a woman), and the pay was barely above minimum wage.

 

The worst week had to have been when we ferried to an island to build a cottage for a well-off fellow. We all stayed in the same house, so it wasn't just 40 hours of harassment that week. It was literally from dawn to dusk. Which is roughly the time modern mennonites go to sleep.

 

I'm sure there were some employee rights violated, but I was just glad to have a job at that time in my life.

I had so many questions about what went on at recycling centers, and this answers them with the most horrible details.

 

Is it strange knowing exactly how much karma owes you?

 

I worked retention at a call center for NetZero/Juno. My managers encouraged me to sell an internet connection to a small boy who's parents didn't speak english very well instead of canceling their account like they wanted.

 

The perks were wonderful, my morals were broken. I hope somewhere a 9 year old child knows he cost me a job through his damned innocence.
