Can You Imagine A Show Like This By Matt?

Recommended Posts

I know, I know, the two bands are totally different. But bear with me for a second.

Our Lady Peace just announced their Canadian tour for the Spring of 2010. What they are doing is picking 2 CDs (Clumsy and Spiritual Machines) and then performing each CD from front to back in one set, and then a totally separate set with a regular mix of hits. In each city they are doing 2 shows. So one for Clumsy, and one for Spiritual Machines. So that's 10-12 songs for a CD, and then another 6-10 for the second set (probably plus encore).

As I said, they are totally different bands. But can you imagine if Matt did a tour and alternated (at the same venue) with like, Avalanche and Beautiful Midnight (pick your own favourites!).

A dream, I know. And also, Matt's songs tend to be more complex, much longer, and he doesn't have a permanent band to rehearse with.

But still! I would be in heaven...

This would be the type of show I'd pay double for (re: other thread about paying more for dream concerts).

If there were two shows per city, would you pay double per show? (so like $90 per show)

This is definitely a dream, if it did happen, it would probably just have to be in the major cities... as I don't think Matt would be able to sell consecutive shows in Dawson Creek, Parry Sound etc.

Personally, I like going to Matt's shows and hearing a lot of tracks off a new album. I don't really think he needs to do something like an entire Beautiful Midnight show, that was 10 years ago, and it's probably not who he is anymore or what he would enjoy to play. Why make the guy play all that again? Enjoy the Vancouver tour while it's here, cause in a couple years people will be on here saying "I wish he would just play Empty's Theme Park again, that was so great live, he should play more album tracks".

As much as I agree with what was just said, THis type of show would be amazing from Matt. I would definitely pay double for something like that.

And it would be tough to pick the two albums, but I'd probably say Audio of Being and Avalanche.

He mentioned in a blog post from a while back that he barely remembers how to play most of the album tracks from Beautiful Midnight.

On a side note, that idea of OLP's is fantastic. Clumsy....it'd be nice to hear Raine try and crack at Car Crash.

I think I'll be checking that show out, it sounds pretty sweet. Although I'm not digging the $199 VIP ticket price, sounds like the regular admission could be a bit on the steep side.

As for Matt doing something like this - amazing as it would be to hear AoB, Avalanche or BM front to back it probably wouldn't happen. But Hospital Music - maybe? I'd still be pumped for that, I wish I had the chance to hear that tour more than once.

He basically played all the songs from Hospital Music at Massey Hall. That's more than enough for me.

I was never a fan of machines, really. Happiness is not a fish that you can catch is one of my favourite albums though. Would be cool if i could see that show.

I think the tickets are around $40-$50 for the regular seating. So not too bad. And all of OLP's tour is inside theatres, which is cool. I am most looking forward to Spiritual Machines. Hearing The Wonderful Future live...drools.

But I think Beautiful Midnight would outdo that for me, easily (have to keep this thread on topic!). To hear A Boy and His Machine Gun live! Or Running for Home! Or BORN TO KILL!

And I know it won't happen, and I wouldn't expect it out of Matt either. I'm grateful for the stuff he plays. And I do want to hear the new stuff, because yeah, we might not hear some of those songs ever again.

As for those OLP VIP tickets...I got some. Yes they are expensive. For $199 you get a good seat (front few rows), a special poster for that particular album, a collectors book with stuff from their history (lyrics, notebook scraps, etc), I think some sort of box with goodies, a laminated poster cover or something. And then a meet and greet with the band after the show. Word from their PR guy as well is that maybe there will be more to it. Hopefully so. But I think still worth it anyway.

I can't imagine playing 2-3 hour shows and then meeting with some fans after. For like 30 shows in a row. It's easy for us to say it's the "price" of being famous, or being a musician, or whatever. But it's still a price none of us have ever had to pay!

I've always liked Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch more than anything else they've done..

And when it comes to Matt doing something like this.. his music is much different and usually encapsulates the particular emotions that he feels at the time. He'll probably never play songs like She's In It For The Money, Truffle Pigs or Champions of Nothing again simply because they won't fit what he's going through.. likewise, we probably won't hear songs like vancouver national anthem or empty's theme park again.. which sucks, but it'll keep things fresh for a while at least

I'm afraid the Cunard Center is not even close to a theater venue, it's always been standing room/general audience only when I've been there. I don't know how they're going to work that with the VIP tickets.

But back on topic, Avalanche with an orchestra at the Rebecca Cohn at Dalhousie... name your price. ;)

Yeah, there are certain albums from certain artists that I would pay (almost) any price they would ask to hear live. Avalanch is one of them. Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch is another...Spiritual Machines almost makes that list...mainly because of The Wonderful Future. I can't believe I will finally hear it live. And Car Crash! And Are You Sad? !

you really are excellent at ruining people's fun.

I've always though Happiness is their best album, as well. Would have chose that over anything to hear completley in their catelogue. Spiritual Machines would of been my second choice though. I'll definitley be going to that.

Great idea for a tour but as said before, never could happen with Matt. But saying that... a fan can dream.
