Euphony.

Also, Go Fly Blind.

ABSOLUTELY Go Fly Blind. Take a look at the man's career and then listen to that song knowing it was one of the first songs he ever recorded without knowing what was in store for him.

Boy Come Home, Man Of Action, Middle Class Gangsters, Invasion 1, the list goes on and on.

That's the problem with recommending his albums to people who want to try and get into him. Where the hell would you start in order to give them the best possible first impression?

Some amazing 'History Teacher' stuff, the best IMO:

The Ocean

Go Fly Blind

Euphony

Bluebird

The Bombmaker

studio stuff::

Vermillion

Fearless

She's Got a New Disguise

Omissions of the Omen

Raygun

The Inescapable Us

My out of style is coming back

I, The Throw Away (amazing lyrics)

The Fall of Man

Under the Influence

Double Life

Bright End of Nowhere

A Long Way Down

Put Out Your Lights

Empty Road

I will go on the record to say Vermillion and Double Life are his most underrated because nobody ever talks about them, even in "underrated" threads (except Bishopx, who made me rediscover this gem). Go listen to Double Life right now and tell me that's not a hit radio single.

All of his songs are underrated from the perspective of mass appeal (he receives very little airplay in the U.S. despite his brilliant music). Although it's nearly impossible to do so (they change all of the time), I will try to pick my favorites from each release:

She's Got a New Disguise

Raygun

The Inescapable Us

Born to Kill

The Fine Art of Falling Apart

Advertising on Police Cars

Avalanche

Blue Skies Over Bad Lands

Odette

Empty's Theme Park

Non Populus

Lullaby is great. One of the underrated songs from Avalanche in my opinion. I quite enjoy Double Life but I agree the album might go better without it. The album really doesn't need 21st Century Living or Song For The Girl. I really wouldn't mind if Pledge wasn't on there either, that one seems to be overrated. Other than those songs (which I don't mind at all), the album is gold.

I love your picks Sensory Overload. Good job and welcome to the forum.

Pledge is great IMO. Maybe it's because Matt says he would rather the record didn't include Double Life, Lullabye and SFTG that I don't enjoy Avalanche as much as I used to. Maybe it's seeped into my brain, but the more I think about it the more incomplete it sounds with those tracks on it. I have and always will love Double Life though. Yeah, that song was built for Much Music and radio, who knows what would have happened if it were released as a single back in the day.

Sleep

Mercy Misses You

Entresol

(For LoFi BSides I guess it would be) Fated

Failing The Rorschach Test

My Life As A Circus Clown

I, The Throw Away

Song For The Girl

Dusk (It's not that it's underrated. It just isn't known all that well)

The Boy Come Home

The Boy Who Could Explode

Extraordinary Fades
