I quite enjoyed it. Future dystopia with some heavy environmental/class struggle tropes. Damon and Copley are fantastic.

I think this film suffered from sophomore-itis, in that people expected Blomkamp to follow up District 9 with something equally as original ....and he went in a different direction.

Jodie Foster's shitty English accent was ... unfortunate, though.

This!  I will never understand this.  If it isn't a period piece or a historical biography, then why does it matter?  The audience has no expectation of an accent, so if the actor can't do it convincingly, then just don't do it.

Even then. Had Kevin Costner not affected a shitty English accent *some of the time* in Robin Hood, he'd have been given a lot less shit. It doesn't mean we can't make believe that he is still supposed to BE English.

Sixty years of Nazis being played by British actors proves this haha

That's a great point...I never understood what Costner was thinking...I assume it was something he started filming with and then eventually dropped...perhaps due to the film being shot non-sequentially that's why it comes and goes?

Yeah, that or he pulled a Carrie Fisher and just slips in and out. If you can't do it, just don't do it. Some actors are fantastic, or at least passable ... others, not so much. Look at Brad Pitt ... great actor who did Roma Irish with perfection in Snatch ... but he couldn't do a milder Irish accent in The Devil's Own worth a damn. Keanu Reeves in Dracula is another example ... cringe....

Guest Idioteque

I remember seeing this in the movie theatre & thinking to myself "my god this is awful.. but whoever is playing Spider is going to be freaking huge someday".

Ended up being Wagner Moura, who went on to kill it as Pablo Escobar in Narcos. Unbelievable actor, even for such a shitty role like Spider he still left an impression on the scene.

Anyone else care for him?

I enjoyed him in Narcos. Didn't realize that was him. Will have to go back and re-watch.
