Descent Freespace

Recommended Posts

One of the best intros to a video game I have ever seen.  If you like Sci-fi or space sims and have never played this game, please get a copy from steam or gog.com.   Then get a glide wrapper called dgVoodoo 2 and use it to trick the game into thinking you have an old Voodoo2 video card to get the best "original" experience.  There is a project out there called fsopen which enhances the graphics and updates the game however it's just not the same.  This game is just amazing.  Freespace 2 was also great, however I'm partial to the first game.

Do I need to use this wrapper glide thingy or can I play without it?

You can most certainly play without it. The graphics are just a little more pixelated however thats no big deal.  The game only runs at 640x480 resolution. If you have a CRT monitor it will look just fine. With LCD monitors its a little hazy when not running native resolutions. Again that doesnt matter.  640x480 is 4:3 aspect ratio so there will be black bars on the sides when using a widescreen LCD monitor.

The gog or steam forums should be able to help if you're having any issues.
