[Merged] 2016 Summer Tour Thread

Recommended Posts

Minus the Barenaked Ladies, and yeah, that's a good lineup.  Saw it online.

Plus, the Dropkick Murphys and Drive By Truckers.  Tickets are a little steep though.

I cannot, cannot, cannot recommend the Drive-By Truckers enough. I'm a newer fan but have seen them 7 times in less than 3 years. Enough said. They have went from a no-name band to me to a top 5. Everyone should know them! For those of you going to the Ontario shows, have a blast! I wish I could make it but with a little one on the way an 8 hour drive, plus border traffic is out of the question. I suckered the wife into the Hamilton show last winter so I can't complain!

I'd love to go see him in Kelowna, worth hitch hiking!

I wonder if it's going to be an proper show with a long set, or if it's more of a promotional show with 4-5 songs.

It's $100, so I'd assume it's a full show. It is at a winery though, and admittedly I can't say I'm familiar with how events like that typically go.

Me neither which is why it comes off more as an event/appearance than an actual gig, hopefully that can be clarified.

I need to decide if I should go to this or not, because 1 Hip ticket for a great seat (+$200) would be around the same cost of seeing Matt at this Winery, getting a hotel & a roundtrip. Weighing my options heavily, unless there is plans for a concert in Vancouver this year *Fingers Crossed*. Canada Day is coming up soon, another Canada Day performance would be out of this world!

Google image the place for its concerts. Looks pretty sick to me. But I like wineries, so there's that. It's definitely a more relaxed vibe but I think it's worth it. It's an intimate setting and lots of banter (which, maybe also because of the wine haha)

I would have held off on that anyways. $100 is pretty steep for these one off acoustic gigs in those upscale venues. I'm sure it would be great and intimate, but I'd rather wait until an actual acoustic tour. Even if it's $100, I wouldn't mind, but at this point I've seen him so many times I can't afford to hear the same material over and over again. I feel like a tour would bring a little bit more to the table. Like Matt has said himself, he would have no problem doing a whole show of obscurities and rarities, but it would be pricey. These last 2 acoustic gigs he's done still appear to have a lot of singles in the mix.

Am I being picky? I know, I sound WAY too picky. I'm sorry.

Well wouldn't you know, some more tickets opened up. On the surface I do totally agree with you, but I can't deny the fact that I've never gone to a show and been underwhelmed. For that reason I went for it.

I will argue you a bit on the single-heavy acoustic shows. The last time he ran through Calgary (acoustically) he put together a bonkers playlist of rarities. Truffle Pigs, Omissions of the Omen, and A Boy and his Machine Gun just off the top of my head. Yes, Matt was plagued with some technical difficulties that completely removed a couple strings from his monitor and it drove him insane, and yes there was a weird bald guy who killed the entire vibe of the show around song #4, but in the end that setlist was undeniably strong. I believe he self-proclaimed it as "the worst show ever" on Twitter, but I walked away with several big positives.

There's no way to tell if this setlist would be like that or more traditional. Whichever direction he decides to go, I'm sure it'll be solid.

Yes! Can't wait to hear more. The demos on the website before Chaotic Neutral came together gave me life!

Getting a New Order-y vibe from it. Someone else mentioned the Cure on the insta too. Definitely feeling it.

To add on to the previous comment, is that the Calgary show you're talking about? Some guy yelled out that it was the worst show he's ever seen or something. I heard about that from Girl in older posts because Vancouver was right after & I found out he was bringing back Machine Gun & Truffle Pigs. :)

Yeah, that guy was a buzzkill. He was rude. The concert was at Cowboy's Casino in November 2014.

Just when I was enjoying and taking in all the of the rarities, the guy in the crowd totally ruined the concert experience for me. It went something like this:

random guy: I've been here 30 times and I've got all your albums and I feel like walking.

Matt: Really? I'm sucking that bad?

*audience laughs*

Matt: No, man. That's f'ing face up. Bless you. Bless you, man. Good on you.

*Matt plays the next song*

haha. Matt is so polite. He is a class act. If it were someone else on stage, like Axl Rose for example, there would be no shortage of expletives, and maybe he would have dove into the crowd, head first, and beat the guy up.

Technical difficulties are unpredictable and are a part of life. That guy probably wasn't a very patient person. For me, I just go with the flow. I don't really care about stuff like that.

It's never too early in my eyes.

This.

Doesn't matter what it's for.  Just any new music, especially what he's shared so far, is exciting.  Hopefully he plays some new stuff on these summer dates.
