Giant live intro?

Did Matt ever explain that intro?

 

It's obviously Matt talking to what seems to be a psychiatist or maybe a representation of Pat (his grand-mother) about his sleeping problems. But what's the link with the current tour or with the record? Is there a meaning to this?

I may be wrong but I believe the same or a similar intro was done during the original BM tour before the shows would start.  Kind of like the answering machine recording beeps/movie bytes and other things that were done during the BM tour.
