seeing as the song talks about times back in the eighties, i'm assuming... (we wore pink in the eighties)

that he's talking about the period or somewhere around there when he was a crazy young man. (i.e. inebriated.)

hence, anything goes.

 

and, if you've read 'at last there is nothing left to say' you will have a great insight into a darkly funny mind. go read the chapters on abusing motion sickness pills and faking multiple personality disorders at criminal trials.
