How can you love Jove, Drusilla, and forsake Rome. from were so heavy!

such a good cd gotta pick 2

Hey I’ve lost too many years to this

I walk behind the crowd

And pick up the garbage that was our future without memory

That made the children of the system we created

And then forgave

also from we're so heavy.

"I walk behind the crowd and pick up the garbage that was our future without memory, that made the children of the system we created and then forgave. How can you love Jove, Drusilla? and forsake Rome?"

and also the entire song of Blue Skies Over Bad Lands

I just think the whole album is full of so many well written lyrics, but those two stand out the most to me.

"This empty road

It keeps me looking for a place in your heart

It’s all I know

Said brother are you weary?

Said sister are you safe? "

From "Empty Road"

I love the lyrics, and their execution, plus, they apply to stuff in my life right now.

though what does this mean exactly?

"How can you love Jove, Drusilla? and forsake Rome"

Matt on this last line:

"Drusilla was Caligula’s sister who he married and then killed. And of course Caligula, the Roman Emperor believed he was Zeus or Jove reincarnate. And just a comment on the fact that you allowed this madman to exist when you could have gotten rid of him a million times. But you don’t. Buy why? For fear? For the fact that you’re unsure of your own actions? You can’t save something by believing that those in charge know what they’re doing but you don’t because you’re ignorant to it. As long as we believe that nothing will ever change. Until people actually stand up and go “you know what, we might not be the most educated about this and you might say this is how it’s done, but who’s to say that that’s always has to be done.” Obviously, look at the way things are “done”, look where it’s gotten us. Time to re-think that."

I also love this part of "we're so heavy":

"Hey I’ve lost too many years to this

I walk behind the crowd

And pick up the garbage that was our future without memory

That made the children of the system we created

and then forgave"

"SATURDAAAAAYYYSSSS!!! Saturdays I'm reminded of.... BOMBS AWAAAAAAAY!!! over our houses when it COULD have been SHOULD have beeeeeen Dovess"

I agree that lyrically Blue Skies over Bad Lands & We're So Heavy are some of the best on the album, but the line above just seems so special. Also, let's not forget Buffalo Seven!

A hand off the heart

One on the wolf until your lambs itch

Life lives in the dark

But you joke and you kid about the light switch

actually I think that the lyrics in WLRRR are in general really really good and very well worked... and I'm using then as a translation practice to improve my English and they even sound great in Spanish ;)

It's so hard to even pick out the best lyrics. Cause you know if you're listening to Matt Good, everything is gonna be amazing. But, I suppose if I had to choose, I would say...

"I walk behind the crowd and pick up the garbage that was our future without memory, that made the children of the system we created and then forgave. How can you love Jove, Drusilla? and forsake Rome?"

A few other people seem to like that as well... ;)

yes ;) actually that's my favorite song from this album... these ones are also prety good:

"Saturdays Saturdays I'm reminded of Bombs away Over the houses

When it could have been, should have been doves

Mind a waste Out on the street They'll sign you up

Get a taste Beat you down

When it could have been, should have been love"

(Expats of the blue mountain symphony orchestra)

yes, it is true... lyrics are more politically oriented and political ideas are clear and very direct ;) but remember previous lyrics too, they were very political-oriented too, not so overt in their expression of political ideas, but still very politically oriented

i'm glad he expresses his ideas more overtly than before

I dunno if you can say that previous lyrics where not as direct... I'm thinking Prime Time Deliverance:

"No eye just their stupid grins,

long to be liberal mannequins,

And their tiny room,

they eat chinese food,

and they don't call their wives,

'cause the girl in the window,

is pressing her breast against the window pane,

the guy they're after on the floor below her is,

cutting cocaine higher than the building"

That's not that vague... But I will agree that Matt is good at the cryptic lyrics.

Peace
