For someone criticizing people's reading level, your spelling is some of the worst I've ever seen! I don't usually care, but sweet mother of jesus: "adalesant liturate" ? Fo' real?

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb here. The Harry Potter books are some of the best children's literature out there. Forget for a second that it is a heavily marketed movie franchise. If you are calling Goosebumps good kids books then there is no point arguing this because you are too far gone to be reached, and will be reading drugstore books the rest of your life. Anyways, I've read all the books, and they are the most engaging children's books I've read since I read the Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia. Regardless of the fact that Harry is a whiny twit, the characters are engaging and the world is fully realized.

They are good books, and though they are aimed at children, I find that they don't really talk down to children, which is what sets apart the good from the bad in this genre.

And seriously, Dragonlance?! Read Lord of the Rings, not the cheap lift of it. They based their books on a game of D&D for goodness sake!

david eddings is better.

and raymond feist owns all your souls.

oh yeah, r.a. salvatore is great too.

and terry brooks.

(i could be here a while.)

i don't mind harry potter. it ain't earth shaking, but it ain't bad either. want some quality fantasy? read the midkemia books by raymond e. feist. i honestly felt like crying when some characters died in it... you actually have them grow old through generations throughout the books. seamlessly integrated, really. it's like losing an old friend.

kickass computer games too. landmark rpgs. kinda like elder scrolls series.

anyways, enough nerdage.

feist = great.

Books are such a personal taste thing.

They are much like music in that respect.

Anyone can be interested in anything really.

I work in a bookstore and you would be amazed at what people read. The variety in taste just one single customer can have.

Looking at my own shelf, I personally have Douglad Coupland, Kurt Vonnegut, Robertson Davies, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Herman Melville, Harper Lee, Micheal Moore, George Orwell, JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, Jose Saramago, Chuck Palahniuk, Douglas Adams, Leo Tolstoy... to name a few of the hundreds of books.

They way I see it, as long as you are reading, who gives a shit really.

Read trashy romance books? Read the classics? Read kids books? Sci-fi/Fantasy? Math? Science? Politics?

At least you're reading something.

(PS: I am greatly excited for the release of the new Harry Potter book. I've already got mine on order.)

I haven't gotten HBP on preorder yet, but I intend to soon. I wonder how many copies they are doing for their initial printing because I have heard that the preorder numbers are in the hundreds of thousands.

I just reread the first 5 books again last week (I read them all in a week) and it was really enjoyable. It got me really excited for book 6 though and made me impatient.
