Canada's Legal Age Of Sexual Consent Is 14 !

Recommended Posts

What do you think about this? Were you even aware of this? Yes, its legal for a 40-year old man to have sex with a 14 year old girl (or boy) in Canada. Hetero or homosexual sex, it doesn't matter, its all fully legal.

Personally i think its disgusting. Canada must be a pedaphiles' wet dream. This law should be changed, preferably to age 18 as it is in the U.S. Or AT LEAST to 16.

14? We aren't living in the 12th century people. If i were a parent, this would anger me.

Yeah, it's too low. It was changed to prevent teens from being prosecuted for having sex with other teens (even though no such charge had ever been laid... excuse the pun).

But then again, should there even be a minimum age of consent? Does the government have the right to legislate such a thing?

well aware.. we don't have a minimum age for marriage, either.

it worked out fine in the 12th century.. i mean, we're all here, right? unless you plan on having sex with 14-year-olds, it really shouldn't concern you. pedophiles are going to have sex with children regardless of what's legal. if the 14-year-old in question doesn't like it, well we have different laws to enforce in that case.

Pedeophiles don't tend to like kids past the age of 14. And if they did I don't think a legal age of cencent would stop them. Never stopped anyone 18 years old from being raped. But really I'd change it to 16. But at 14 I totally would have had sex with a 40 year old. I just didn't really know everything about it.

I took a law course in grade 12 so forgive me if I have this wrong (it was like 6 years ago)

It is still called satatory rape if someone over the age of 18 has sex w/ someone younger than 18.

as far as the marrage goes, you have to have both parent/guardains permission to marry if you're under the age of 18. By both I mean both sides.

No.

There's also an "age difference" rule if one person is over 18. And you can't have sex with people, if you're a minor, that are in a "position of trust", like a babysitter.

Why would it anger you if you were a parent? You're already angered as it is, and it's not properly founded.

Two 14 year olds can consent to have sex. I seriously doubt that happens very often, and when it does, it's a decision between two people, usually regretted the next week.

Personally, I think 14 is too young for people to be having sex in general. In Britain, a considerably more socially liberal society than Canada, the age is 16, and discussion about sex is way more open there than it is over here.

zing!

yeah, um...

i can't even comprehend that sort of thing...

i don't want to.

<shivers>

whatever... not my life. but you can't even understand the ramifications of such a thing at a young age. even now, i still don't. not like i've done such a thing. but still... it'll be many years til i fully comprehend that sort of thing.

can you imagine having kids?

that's all i'll say about such things.

Pedophilia doesn't enter into it, it only refers to sexual attraction to pre-pubescent individuals. I think 14 is really fine, given the alternative (if a 16-year old and a 15-year old have sex, the only choices are either it's legal or one of them gets some kind of punishment, which is totally absurd).

Making the legal age of consent 14 is ridiculous, but then again, even if it was 18, 14 year olds would still be having sex. I've never had sex, and if I was about to, I'd make sure I'd still be with the guy 5 years down the road. Having sex at a young age does a lot o damage later later in life, and I doubt guys want to have to listen to girls bitch about it. "Keep your pants on and nobody gets hurt"

I don't think the law will have any bearing on what kids actually do, unless things get out of control. But as far as consentual sex goes, I'm sure by 14, some people think they're ready and other aren't. When I was 14 I wouldn't have a clue what to do, but I know others who did. Still, most people have sex at too young an age.

I think the real problem is education. They tell you the mechanics of it in school, but they don't really tackle the emotional part of it. Sure it feels good, but you can do that part yourself. It's tough, but I think parents really need to explain sex in whole different way and not be so afraid to talk about it.

And yes, this is general comment aimed at North America. I'm sure there are lots of parents who do talk about it more openly and I know it's more common in other countries.

I think it completely depends on the person. But I do think that anyone in high school is too young to have sex. I know most people do have sex in high school, I did, but I really think that's too young. I've learned a lot in my older years.

The laws do need a bit of reform, but i think thats more to do with the statatory rape side of things. It is not illegal, per se, but if a 40y-old fucks a 14 year old, and the 14y-olds parents call the cops, the elder is facing Sex Offender status.

Technically, where i'm 7 months older than the girl i'm seeing right now, in july, when i turn 18, if we fucked and her parents (Assuming they were to find out,) were upset, they could have me charged. I don't really think that's cool...

The part i don't like about the law is that a 40 year-old man can legally have sex with a 14-year old. I don't really care if a 14 year old has sex with another 14 year old. I just think its morally wrong to allow an adult to have sex with a 14 year old.

If i had a 14 year old daughter & she had consensual sex with a 50 year old man, there's nothing i could do about it. If i had a 14 year old boy & he had consensual sex with a 50 year-old man there's nothing i could do about it. Personally, i find that disgusting.

Can't drive until 16. Can't smoke until 18 or whatever. Can't drink a beer until 19 (or whatever it is in your Province). But you can have sex with an adult at 14? Illogical.

Teenagers have sex w/ each other all the time, i'm not worried about that. Its about protecting the younger teens from adults who can take advantage of them.

The Criminal Code does not now  criminalize consensual sexual activity with or between persons 14 or over, unless it takes  place in a relationship of trust or dependency, in which case sexual activity with persons  over 14 but under 18 can constitute an offence, notwithstanding their consent. Even  consensual activity with those under 14 but over 12 may not be an offence if the accused  is under 16 and less than two years older than the complainant. The exception, of course,  is anal intercourse, to which unmarried persons under 18 cannot legally consent, although  both the Ontario Court of Appeal(3) and the Quebec  Court of Appeal(4) have struck down the relevant  section of the Criminal Code.

the last is the actual criminal code.
