let's get it on (almost)

Truffle pigs

The fine are of falling apart

Bright end of nowhere <- I got sick of it here

It's been a while since I was your man

This strum pattern was a key feature in a song that inspired me to learn guitar, although, I think it's time to retire this baby, as much as I've enjoyed it. Matt,if you've written a song containing this strum pattern for the new album, please replace it with... a piano ballad. I want to hear more piano. Not that you'd give a fuck about what I have to say.Thankyou.

i learned how to play guitar on that strum pattern too. Now it's like ingraved in my muscle memory and every time i try to jam out a new song with my band i usually end up using it with out even knowing it.

I don't really care about how many songs of his have it, it's just not very interesting from a musical standpoint is all.

Alabama...Wynona's big brown beaver.

Any of that crazy triplet shit that I did... Steve Harris

Any melodic bass stuff...Graham Maby f/ Joe Jacksons early stuff.Or Sting fer christ's sake!

The way you play is directly connected to what you listen to.

I play rockabilly guitar now and I STILL play like a bass player.

Just keep playin' and stop worrying about it.At least you're not a god damned D.J!!!!

Cheers...Geoff

It's fucked up, Geoff, cause when I started playing bass I found myself doing a lot of the walking stuff that you did, probably because I used to listen to shit from Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts up to Underdogs so closely. I always loved the tones you used to, I though it added a really cool dynamic to the music.

I've gotten used to using a pick when I play bass though, so I've sort of abandoned that style of playing for the most part. Sorry if this sounds like sucking up, it wasn't supposed to come off like that.

POST PICS!

;)

It's funny you use the term "walking" 'cause I can't do that shit fer the life of me!What I did was more of the melodic style of bass playing like the 80's players did.The walking style came from those jazz cats that knew their shit, know what I'm sayin'?

Just play what ya like and don't worry 'bout what the bass-owners in the Bass-Owner magazines say. They're wankers anyway!

P.S. Learn yer Duran Duran...Trust me...It helps.No kiddin'.

Cheers...Corndog.

I like to listen to a wide variety of music so that I'm influenced by many different bass techniques. Personally, I prefer not using a pick unless it's really needed.

The one thing that blows my mind is that I just don't understand how Flea can jump around on stage and go completely frantic and yet still keep the precision he does on bass. It's unreal.

And is that a les paul, jesse?

Maybe walking wasn't the best term to use, cause yeah I guess technically, you never really did use that technique as far as I know. So what ARE you trying to say, that's you didn't know your shit? ;) I kid, of course. For the most part you used a smoothe flowing sound, that kind of drifted through the song. The lines weren't very generic, at least to my knowledge, and there was always something extra added, but it never came off as exccessive.

Never thought Geoff Lloyd would be calling me a corndog, but cheers to you too, man.

And yeah, Flea is just incredible. Nothing short of a showoff, but if you ever put him up to the challenge he would outdo you in a second.

Sockcrotch, yeah, it's a Les Paul. But it was just an Epiphone that I was playing in a Cash Converters one day. They're nice, but nice my thing. I own a Gibson SG, that thing is my baby.

yeah the bass that made me pick up a bass was the good old foo fighters way way back in the day, i agree with sockcrotch i cannot use a pick, firstly because it feels annoying and secondly so many good pick up lines playing bass with girls around, I need to buy a new one for about 800 any suggestions right now i have an old fender, and a custom built one made from various old basses

fender precision

fender jazz is a great choice too

I'm thinking of buying an acoustic bass. Any suggestions as to what kind to get (keeping in mind I'm not loaded)? I had my eye on a nice epiphone acoustic bass the other day. I also noticed a pretty good acoustic fender.
