none of these 2005 shows are supposed to be converted in mp3...

Why is that?

Because some people think far too highly of themselves and their bootlegs. And while I enjoy listening to them, I'd prefer that the pretentiousness wasn't part of the package.

I really try to stay out of the whole MP3 versus lossless argument as it seems to never end but some education on the matter never hurts. It's not that the tapers are saying I made the recording, obey by my rules or else I will kill your cat, it's for a greater purpose.

Pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about MP3's and their lossy ways can be found here, but this one here is probably worth the read because it explains why MP3s shouldn't be used as a trading format.

I believe it was the Coldplay trading community that really got hit hard with having MP3 traded shows. People were passing them off as lossless when they were lossy and eventually the whole circle was polluted and no one knew the lineage of any show and the original source couldn't be found. The MG circle is small enough with only a few tapers, but each tour there are seven or so more shows that come out and it's just a matter of preserving the longterm quality.

Ok.

I understand the whole reasoning behind it, I'm just saying there alot of people who aren't all that picky about bitrate and format and other such things, and just want to hear live versions of songs without a bootlegger throwing a hissyfit about having their work tarnished or something equally ridiculous.

And for the record, I wasn't referring to Mr. Sack.

We're not saying don't convert them to mp3, thats your preference.

Our beef is people converting them to mp3 and sharing them in that format on here, a torrent, the hub, an FTP, anything like that.

You want them for personal use, ya convert go for it just dont post or share it publicly or the tapers will get annoyed and just not share them anymore.

It sucks and no one wants it to come to that but it may happen.

i have to agree, i convert the shows to wma myself to play on my personal player, but i don't trade those converted files. The tapers provide us with shows, understand where they are coming from.

i can't find them...sad

here...> http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm to download the program

and here http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm to get the flac and wma codecs

don't download too many more codecs, it slows down the program
