Akira Kurosawa

Anyone watch any of his old samurai movies? They were basically westerns and had huge influence on later westerns.

 

Fistfull of Dollars and Last Man Standing were remakes of Yojimbo, for example.

 

And Kurosawa had a penchant for using my favorite actor, Toshiro Mifune (until they had a falling out after Red Beard).

 

Anyway, any more fans out there?

Ooohh, favorites! I would have to say that Red Beard is probably my favorite (leave it to me to pick a non-samurai in the samurai thread - course, it was in the same time period).

 

You guys looking forward to the Sixties samurai swordplay set coming later this month? Mifune is in at least one of them, can't wait ;)

Seven Samurai is amazing. It's even better if you watch The Magnificent Seven (another western remake) first. I think it has Mifune's best performance, even better than in Yojimbo.

Have you seen Red Beard? Course, Mifune is always great... I watched The Bad Sleep Well recently, good stuff.
