Sans Seraph

Sans Seraph myspace page

this is an amazing band.. powerful lead singer who used to be the lead singer of a band called Shun which was as amazing, if not moreso... but unfortunately they are no more... thankfully he is now a part of Sans Seraph.. they are based out of Tennessee, USA.. you should definitely give them a listen

anyone heard of snake river conspiracy? kinda like evanescence, only darker. they have a couple good covers of a smiths song and a cure song too.

I have their first album. Much better than Evenesence, blah, I hate them. She has a great voice. I wonder what's up with that band? Last time I heard they got a new singer.

The Tears, featuring former members of Suede, probably have one of the strongest debuts of 2005 and the b-sides are just as good. No American recognition aside from a blurb in Spin and a display at Waterloo Records in downtown Austin.

Also digging Decemberists, but they just signed to a major label so I guess that's pretty close to being discovered.

Josh Joplin, singer/songwriter/Michael Stipe impressionist, released a great album last year called Jaywalker, a follow up to The Future That Was. I don't think it was as accessible as it should've been to new fans, but he writes really great folk/pop stuff. Heard him once, just once, on a local radio station that's now kaput. Hooked since.

Can't wait for two new albums this year by one Sondre Lerche, who gets recognition in Spin and GQ but only for the fact that he's so young to have such a classic voice with a wide knowledge of music and influence. It irks me that people read the music mags and know the artists, know the songs, but have never heard them. The same can be said for...

The Dears. I don't know their status in Canada, but they should really be more popular here. The dark, grand pop sound would really make them a contender with other acts that have been blown waaaay the hell out of proportion. Found "End of A Hollywood Bedtime Story" at Waterloo, and bought the import of No Cities Left (U.S. doesn't come with Don't Lose The Faith). Awaiting new album, being recorded now.

Quasi are a great band to check out.

Quasi - brief bio

Formed by Janet Weiss & Sam Coomes, Portland, Oregon, '93. Expiremented with various lineups in early live appearances, while recording as a duo, eventually settling on the duo format in performance as well. Released a cassette in '93, & a self-released CD (containing some of the material from the cassette plus additional material, all recorded in the bands basement rehearsal space with "home recording" equipment). Released 2nd Album, "R&B Transmogrification" (recorded in another basement with slightly nicer "semi-pro" recording equipment) on Up Records in '97. Released 3rd album, "Featuring 'Birds'," (recorded in a "professional" studio {16 tracks!})on Up in '98. Toured U.S., Europe, Australia, & Japan opening for & also serving as backup band for Elliott Smith, '98-'99, as well as touring on their own in U.S. & Europe during the same period. Released 4th album, "Field Studies," on Up in '99, continued touring. Released 5th album, "The Sword of God," on Touch & Go Records in '01, returning to self-produced home recording, albeit with upgraded equipment. Released 6th album, "Hot Shit!," on Touch & Go in '03. Quasi albums continue to be licensed internationally through Domino (U.K.) & P-Vine (Japan), & the band continues to tour actively, & are pleased with whatever successes they have achieved while maintaining a personal, anti-corporate approach.

I'm not sure if there are any people from northern new york(as in the potsdam area)on this bored, but some killer local bands are in firetower fall and alive on arrival. candid - plays mostly along I-90(Rochester to Syracuse to Albany). the love parade play mostly in buffalo and are influenced by the flaming lips and are the who-esque. candid is the most established of these, but i don't think they are signed yet.
