Ran is amazing, but I think I was more affected by Kagemusha (came out a few years before Ran). Ran is probably more powerful in general, but Kagemusha had such a powerful ending I can't just not love it. Course, my favorite Kurosawa is probably Red Beard.

 

Interesting trivia: Kurosawa was half blind when he directed Kagemusha and completely blind when he directed Ran.
