Prog Rock

I have recently become addicted to progressive rock, the much derided form of music dating back to the late 60s. I love King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Yes, Genesis etc.

 

Who do like? Why do you like 'em?

depends on what you consider to be prog rock.. i don't like any of the bands you listed, but a lot of the bands i listen to have progressive elements although i would hesitate to classify them as progressive.

crimson and zappa are alright to listen to, but i havent really got into them yet. i think the kind of prog i hate is stuff that sounds like ELO.

I've not heard good things about ELO. Elp aren't that bad though. Not that great, but not bad.

I'm not a fan of prog rock. I just don't think anything with 10 minute drum solos should be considered "rock."

They only do the 10 minute drum solo thing live. And does it really ,matter wether it's considered rock or not?

Porcupine Tree are incredibly kickass.

In Absentia and Deadwing are two of the most solid albums i've ever heard.

I used to listen to Porcupine Tree for a little while, they're nice. Other than that, I don't think I've listened to many progressive rock bands.

I implore all of you to listen to King Crimson. They have had at least 6 wildly different phases of music, so if you hear something you don't like, don't give up.
