What You Guys Using To Bootleg Matt Shows?

Recommended Posts

I got a good recording device... the only problem is that i'm looking for a very good mic (in the 100 - 200$ range) binaural of course.

My recording device can pre-amp my signal, so i would likely buy a mic like the cardiod from core sound:

Or the Giant Squid:

Or the one from sound-pro:

Any idea, since many of you are bootleging Matt show (legally).. what mic are you using? Can i expect good sound quality from a 200$ mic.

I will be biased, but I really like the quality of sound I get from the SP-CMC-2 (AT831) microphones. I use a battery box (from JB3) and always get a great sound (unless the acoustics/soundmix of the venue is terrible to begin with).

From the loud thrashings of The White Stripes or to an acoustic song from The Arcade Fire, the mics handled it all. I will be using the JB3>SP-SB1>SP-CMC2 configuration for Matthew Good and City And Colour, which will both be acoustic shows and anticipate great results.

From what I know the SP microphones are always a good choice and recommended (for stealthing and within that price range) from the experts over at Taperssection. Those Giant Squid's are cool because of how the mics can be placed at 90 degrees, but can't give a personal testimony about them.

I have thought of upgrading my mics to something swappable or a little more versatile (CMC-8's), but don't really need to, it's more of an upgrade bug. If you haven't already, I would recommend doing some searching over at Taperssection to get an idea of what would be the best for your device and budget and read some better written reviews about those mics.

I used these mics on his last tour

http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1334659

they seem to do quite well... They are pretty good for stealth and also have great quality

I will be using the same gear --- SONY MZ-N707 -> Dual Channel Power Supply Bass Rolloff -> MM-HLSC-1 HighLine "Sennheiser Driven" Cardioid Stereo Mics

For this acoustic tour I'll crank down the bass rolloff, because I won't be too worried about loud bass

btw, what shows are you planning to bootleg?? I'll be taping both Waterloo's, Barrie, Kingston, Ottawa, and St. Catherines.... hopefully London, and TO.... if i get scalpers tickets
