I hadn't really given Muse a good listen until seeing the Knights of Cydonia video, and I have to say I'm quite impressed with the song and the video. Beyond this one song I can't see I've heard any of their material for a few years, since a friend recommended them to me and I shot them down. Anyone thing their new album's worth checking out?

Never got into Muse. I like Bellamy's voice, but the music itself always feels like it's been done before.

by radiohead maybe? that's how they struck me when i listened to their last album. it was good, but i thought if i want to listen to radiohead, i'll listen to radiohead. i hung onto stockholme syndrome and hysteria, though.

Why would I call you an idiot?

Pablo Honey is utter shit, I will agree with that.

Kid A and Amnesiac always stood out as their best work to me. You should give the albums a few more chances in my worthless opinion.

Agree with Chris. Radiohead is horribly over-rated imo. I would rather listen to Thom Yorke's solo cd then anything they've ever put out as a band

Also, Knights of Cydonia is amazing, it just takes a few listens to really get into it. Not their best song by any means, since that of course could only be Citizen Erased.

And to the OP, you should check out Origin of Symmetry.. its probably their best album.

honestly, i listened to both those albums more than a couple times and in kid a's case tried to convince myself that i liked it cuz everyone always sings it's praises as such a masterpiece. and there aren't more than a few redeeming tracks on either of them ('optimistic' is the only one i really remember liking). just sounded like they were trying too hard to be 'out there', and, for me anyway, the music suffers when bands do that.

and your opinion is no more worthless than mine.

i like muse a lot...i think that knights of cydonia was probably the worst choice for a single off any album ever...great song (fits in the album perfectly) but not catchy and too long...their new single 'starlight' should've been the first single off black holes and revelations...other great songs are butterflies and hurricanes, stockholm syndrome, city of delusion, falling away with you, apocalypse please, new born, bliss, take a bow, citized erased....ok, theres too many good songs...those who haven't checked them out should definitely do so

I'd almost say this video takes a lot from Joss Whedon's Firefly, with the space western theme happening.

Also, as a fan of both bands, Muse and Radiohead really don't sound much alike unless you're talking about the falsetto vocals on some tracks, maybe a few other key places. However, I know Mr. Yorke was displeased with them one time.

Sure his voice sounds very similar

What are you talking about?! Bellamy's voice is far superior to anything Yorke has ever mustered [and I say this as a fan of both bands].

To the original topic at hand, I have found Black Holes and Revelations to be the least exciting and least enjoyable album from Muse. Its predecessors - particularly Origins of Symmetry - are far superior in my opinion. I find with this album that they've become quite mainstream and abandoned some of their roots [i don't mind bands branching out if it benefits their music, but I don't think it does for this trio].

Having seen them live, I can honestly say that they put on an outstanding show. Bellamy running from the piano - which is usually on a higher plateu - down to the main stage before the opening notes in the "Newborn" riff will always stick in my mind.

Anyway, that's just me.

i agree, they are the best band.. bar none.

oneeighty, you might be relieved to hear that their next album is supposedly some kind of 'progressive piano rock epic' with a lot more of their classical roots in tact. Matt says there's gonna be a couple 10-minute plus songs on the album to look forward to. It sounds as if it will be completlely different then anything they've ever tried. I'm already excited, granted these are just the early ideas.

This thread made me want to listen to Absolution which in turn made me want to listen to Black Holes and Revelations which in turn made me buy it which in turn made me vraiment fucking disappointed.
