Recommended Posts

hey, just came home with a new iMac. i want to figure out how to make the "mail" shortcut thingy connect to my email account. i dont have a .mac account, but a hotmail account, and i have three options POP, IMAP or EXCHANGE. then it asks for my incoming mail server, username and password. also, do i have to have a .mac account to use ichat? im sure i'll have other questions as time goes on, so any help or hints would be much appreciated.

Right, you need to know if you have a POP or an IMAP account. If you have an webmail interface it probably an IMAP account.

No, you don't need a .mac account to use iChat, but it uses AOL so you would ned an AOL account.

Adium is an excellent IM client on mac or MSN, ICQ, ect.

Also, I use a hotmail account for MSN and the stupid pisser won't hook up to my friggin webcam!!! I can only use iChat and who the HELL uses AOL?!?!

Sorry, you are trying to get to you're hotmail from mail?

You can only do that if you have an upgraded hotmail account. Unfortunately I cannot give the information since I don't have an upgraded account. Needless to say you can look it up on the web sight by searching for "accessing hotmail though outlook"

I don't know about video support for webcams in Mac MSN (I don't use it). You need an application to use USB camera's though. Try MacCam since it installs support for USB cameras, and my make them accessible in MSN (though as I said I don't even know if the feature is supported).

ok so hold on... can i or can't i use iSight with msn mac version?

and is this true... a .mac account costs $139?

You can use iSight with a different program called aMSN... It's a different version made by Linux http://www.amsn-project.net/download.php

Oh, I said that I can use it, but I can't because of the firewall that is in place in the house here... I can't touch it....

Oh yeah .mac account is expensive... it's about that much....

Nah. MSN for mac doesn't support any kind of video/voice conversation. Or anything beyond what MSN used to offer for PC's five years ago.
