Question For The Drummers

Recommended Posts

I don't have the song (feel free to upload it and I'll give it a listen), but I can make a pretty safe guess that it is quite complex. Danny Carey's work is very, very impressive.

Edit: To expand a little, he uses a lot of shifting/metamorphic time signatures from what I remember (not unlike John Bonham), which makes learning individual parts relatively easy, but incorporating them into the main groove very difficult.

Danny is one of the best drummers that I have ever heard.

Being a drummer myself, I have tried to repeat things he has done, be it fills and such, and I cannot seem to get the timing down just right. So I try and not to mimic him or other drummers that are just as good (for example Matt Cameron, and Neil Peart)

Heh, sadly I can't play it (my music converter thingy expired), but I'll get a friend to send it to me sometime soon and give you the full drum review.

Edit: Yeah, AoB hit the nail on the head: it's the timing. It's very...unorthodox in a lot of places.

you mean in general with his drumming, or your friend sent you the song already?

In general. As I said in my first post, and shade mentioned, he changes time signatures a lot.

He makes the drumset his bitch and fucks it up the ass.

I love his druming. It is awesome!

I should have become a drummer. I have 2 sets of drums... but do you think I know how to play? No. Just very basic stuff. My dad is the drummer. He gave me the drums just so it would go to my head. But he uses them

Jarrod: it's never too late to learn. I just started like 2 years ago, very casually, and recently I've gotten very heavily into it, actually getting talented, etc.

Seriously, just sit down and have fun. The cool thing with drumming is that it's hard to get worse, as long as your practicing isn't like, directly aimed at ruining your timing or anything.
