Starbuck's Record Label

Recommended Posts

A friend emailed me this link this morning. I don't really know tht much about Starbuck's and any real history they've had with the arts or entertainment but it seems kind of interesting.

What does everyone think? Do any Starbuck's regulars post on the Bored (I myself have only ever been once or twice)? Would you be in favour of a coffee shop that distributed music in store or had some sort of digital download centre?

I frequent starbucks during the holiday season mainly, and go there sporadically the rest of the year. The music that's usually playing is very smooth. Jazz, blues, soul and quieter stuff like Norah Jones...

Some of it is stuff that would find it's way onto my, "Entertaining A Lady dinner guest" mix. I purchased a Christmas CD there, that was pretty good. The Starbucks business history, is impressive. If you're into that sort of thing, pick up the CEO/Creator's book. I think overall, their label is a great idea...they have a built in market for their music. My Mom loves that Ray Charles disc, and she's not a Starbucks fan...so go figure.

I kinda hate Starbuck's, but I guess that's kinda expected from a soldier of Tim Horton's Army. At any rate, the...I think only time I was in there for coffee, they did have some CDs with a name I recognised. I forget what it was now, but I'm fairly sure she did some vocal work for more mainstream trance. I assume the CD was more downtempo new age stuff.

I keep expecting to see whale sounds up there.

We go to Starbucks everyday (even though I don't drink coffee ;)), but don't really pay much attention to what music they have available, other than they do often choose artists (Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones) that I tend to like. As for overally ambience, the music, along with the green and brown wood paneling, does add to that especially "branded" experience...

The coffee's passable, but we'd rather go to Illy's or something. Better quality.

Overall, I prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee for day to day drinking. It's like Tim Hortons down here. I also Like Tim Hortons, when I'm up north.

I think it was inevitable, really good coffee houses usually supply good music. I've done a lot of personal writing in them. Of course, Starbucks would not only try to copy them, but take it to another level.

I've only been to Starbuck's maybe 2 times, just to make sure I wasn't missing out. I hate coffee, and I'm not too fond of the crowd that place seems to attract. Sometimes it's difficult to respect people that spend $3 for some bitter water.

I'm not too fond of the music they have either, so that wouldn't be an incentive to go there.
