I owned Animal Years prior to Matt mentioning it (albeit not long before). Was recommended through a friend to pick it up after mentioning I was a fan of Pilate (Speed... *shudder*). I gotta admit I don't really get how he made the connection but I really do enjoy the album.

look up mechanical licensing in canada. if you distribute a cover, even if it wasn't by the artist, someone is liable to pay the original composer for it's use. playing it in a concert falls under that category as well. you don't necessarily have to release it comercially to get sued.

did MG have the rights to publish it on his own site then? by putting out there was he not distributing it?

 

 

lots of bands play lots of covers..."cover bands" do they really get lisences to play each song. thats amazing if so.

The cover is okay, actually, I'm not a big fan of Matt's covers, they're sort of boring.

You know, with most of his covers or solo acoustic songs I would ussually agree with you, but in my personal opinion this is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
