is this really how things are gonna be with you?

edit:

Any chimp can play human for a day

and use his opposable thumbs to iron his uniform;

and run for office on election day;

and fancy himself a real decision maker,

then deploy more troops than salt in a shaker.

But it's a jungle when war is made,

and you'll panic and throw your own shit at the enemy.

The camera pulls back to reveal your true identity.

Look, it's a sheep in wolf's clothing,

a smoking gun holding ape.

Any asshole can open up a museum;

put all of the things he loves on display

so everyone can see them.

The house, the car, a thoughtful wife;

ordinary moments in his ordinary life.

But if she blinks or smiles, she'll give you away;

'cause no one wants to pay to see her happiness.

No one wants to pay to see her day to day

and I'm not buying it either,

but I'll try selling it anyway.

Any idiot can play Greek for a day

and join a sorority or write a tragedy;

and articulate all that pain,

and maybe you'll get paid.

But it's a sin when success complains,

and your writers block- it don't mean shit.

Just throw it against the wall and see what sticks.

Gotta write a hit -- I think this is it.

It's a hit.

And if it's not,

then it's a holiday for a hanging,

yeah it's a holiday for hanging

yeah it's a holiday for hanging, yeah

shoo-bop-shoo-bop my baby

Any fool can play executioner for a day,

and say with fingers pointed in both directions

'He went that way,

It's only a switch or syringe,

I'm exempt from eternal sins...'

But you still wear a cross,

and you think you're gonna get in...

Ah, but the pardons never come from upstairs;

they're always a moment too late,

but it's entertainment; keep the crowd on their toes,

it's justice, we're safe.

It's not a hit, it's a holiday.

shoo-bop-shoo-bop my baby

It's a holiday for hanging, yeah

It's a holiday for hanging, yeah

It's a holiday for hanging, yeah

It's a holiday for hanging, yeah

I'm a holiday for hanging,

I'm a holiday for hanging,

I'm a holiday yeah

I'm a holiday for hanging,

It's a holiday for hanging, yeah.

i don't really think those are "weak" lyrics. and that's not even my favourite song.

This song is okay, it's not personally striking in anyway. I didn't say that they were awful, just in general in my opinion weak. You like it, lots of people do.

I'm sure that you could find fault in plenty of things that I listen to.

And I can do the frug

I can do the Robocop

I can do the Freddie

I cannot do the Smurf

And I can hate your girl

I can tell you that she's real pretty

I can take my clothes off

I cannot fall in love

And I can do the frug

I can do the Robocop

I can do the Freddie

I cannot do the Smurf

And I can watch TV

I can shuffle up to Buffalo

I can do a backbend

I will not call you back

And I can start a book

I can make some mac and cheese

I can sleep twelve hours

You'll never see my eyes

Chorus

And I can hate your girl

I can tell you that she's real pretty

I can take my clothes off

I cannot fall in love

You'll never see my eyes

I will not call you back

I cannot do the smurf

I cannot fall in love

I'll never fall in love

I cannot fall in love...

this was the first rilo kiley song lyrics that were listed. this probably has some deep personal meaning for her and all and it's not utter filth but it's pretty uninspiring. 50 people on this site could bang something out like this in 15 minutes.

I've been trying to find more female music lately - I am horrified about how much of my music is by guys!

Lots of good stuff has been mentioned (Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis, Sia, Aimee Mann, Go Sailor!, Goldfrapp)

I've recently found: Camera Obscura, Laura Nyro, The Essex Green, Cat Power, Christine Fellows, Frou Frou/Imogen Heap, Heavenly, Joanna Newsom, Mates of State, Save Ferris, Stars, Telepopmusik, Vikki Carr, Heartless Bastards, Gossip, Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

I just got an album by Mirah, but haven't really listened to it properly yet...

Let's not forget Concrete Blonde. The lead singer has the most hauntingly beautiful voice.

Did you check out the Heads album, where she did most of the vocals? "No Talking, Just Head" She made that so great.

Bloodletting is definitely, my favorite by them...(Tomorrow, Wendy is my favorite song)

I like Walking In London - Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man(what a great song)

Mexican Moon was pretty great too, Heal it up and (Love is a) Blind Ambition. just great songwriting given to the perfect voice.

She's one of those rare female vocalists, that could make anything sound good.

i've been busy with exams. those are done as of next monday, so after that i will try and check out more of the bands suggested. it will be lovely to have time to do things like that again!

right now i am 100% in looooooove with regina spektor. haven't stopped listening to her in the past week.

i suggest her new album, 'begin to hope' or 'soviet kitsch'. excellent, excellent singer/pianist.

I think I OD'd on Regina Spektor. I listened to her stuff for about a month straight and now I can't listen to any of it. Don't know what happened there. But ya, the older stuff is better in my opinion. Don't know if anyone has heard the albums "Songs" or "11:11" but I've got 'em if you want to hear more.
