[Shortcut To Moncton]

I know my threads with me suggesting bands never get received well but how many of you are familiar with the band Hum? When I first heard them years ago, I thought they sounded like the Smashing Pumpkins as their guitar work does have a Siamese Dream feel to it but now I see them as a mellow version of Isis with a ton of distortion. Vocally, the closest comparison I can make is that he resembles is that of Dinosaur Jr. in a sense of limiting the range of his vocals to the lower registers and not singing very loudly. Either way, I guess I would call this shoegaze with the edginess of '90s alternative rock.

 

This is the kind of band that with repeated listens, you hear different elements that maybe didn't catch you the first time around but it really gets to you after a while. Hell, You'd Prefer An Astronaut and Downward Is Heavenward are just about my two favourite albums in my collection.

big yay!!! i love downward is heavenward. and you'd prefer an astronaut is good, but not as good. don't bother with their stuff from before that, imho. i went hum-nuts a few years ago, and collected everything they released, and the albums you mentioned are the only two good ones. they hadn't found their sound before that. i keep hoping they'll get back together.

Yeah Downward Is Heavenward is out of this world. Tell me an album better than that from 1998.

Yeah...it's between Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood for Manson's best album but gotta give it to Animals.

 

It's too bad that Hum will only be remembered as "one single wonders"...Stars was a minor hit that should have done more damage.

that's the only song i've ever heard. and i loved it when i was younger because it had a really great line in it that made me happy everytime i heard it.

I remember they did "Stars"...I had the disc, and I saw them in RI. Thanks for reminding me, I'm, listening to a mixed playlist of three of their discs now.

my hum is in .ogg format. you'd have to update whatever the hell you use to listen to music with to support .ogg format, most likely. i no longer have the cds to re-rip. maybe someone else on hear would be kind enough to upload it for you.

Totally have Stars on a tape somewhere. I think my brother had the CD. Loved that song so much. Gonna try and find that CD.

i can't remember if i watched it on this site or not, but there's video of an appearance on howard stern's show on here that i've seen before, in the download section, plus some other stuff (videos, etc). i guess howard was big into them for a split second.
