When some lyrics arise where some guy is singing about some girl and love and whatnot.

Do you relate to it?

If so, from what perspective.

Maybe you don't even listen to the lyrics.

I'd like to hear some thoughts...and maybe some pics? wink wink

I'd like to hear some pics, too.

Seriously though, great topic, I've asked a few girls about this concept before. All that I spoke to said they approached love songs from the receiving end (that is, they listened as if the song was directed toward them.) It also seemed to be a positive feature of songs for them--they tended to like songs like this.

This should work for surveying the guys and the girls here. Which of the following best applies to you?:

A. I feel like the lyrics of most songs I like are speaking for me.

B. I feel like the lyrics of most songs I like are speaking to me.

C. I usually don't experience a personal connection with lyrics.

D. I usually don't pay attention to lyrics.

A for me.

we can relate to it because the songs are written in first person. it's not "he will always love you" it's "i will always love you".

the voice is irrelevant, it's the thought behind it that matters. and it doesn't if you're male or female, songs are typically written about a feeling and regardless of how much we like to admit that everyone feels them.

Meg is right. We use music as a vehicle of emotional transference. Our moods dictate what we listen to, and therefore echoes our emotional voices. It's like making a mixtape for someone, it's not a random sampling, it's a method of communication.

don't think I've ever had a mixed CD made for me...

I'm currently in the process of making one for my girlfriend, all slow dance/love songs. It's a lot harder than you'd think it would be...;)

EDIT: Open to suggestions on songs to add to it...just PM them to me

You should definitely post a list of what ends up on it. I'm really curious.
