Chris Cornell - Carry On

Same here. I heard Chris Cornell doing an acoustic version of "Black Hole Sun" on the radio today at work and it made me think of how good they were.

I haven't heard this yet but I would like to outright say right now that I enjoy Euphoria Morning more than ANY Soundgarden release. But over the years of Audioslave, Cornell's voice has declined SO dramatically that I'm afraid to hear this. Also, the first single sucks.

the only soundgarden i was huge into was superunknown. before that, cornell was too...screamy. and the album after that blew, with a couple of exceptions.

This album is nothing like Euphoria Morning, that album was mostly acoustic, this album sounds like a band's album. A bad band's album.

Listening to it right now (on track 5). It's alright so far. It has too much of a Southern Rock influence so far I would say and yeah, this feels like an effort from a full band. Pretty generic so far and Cornell's voice is iffy. I'll be back when the album is done.

 

Okay, done with the album. The cover of Billie Jean really wasn't necessary and I did not like it at all. The second half of the album is so forgettable but it's not like the first half was any better. Overall, I guess it's a fairly decent album but would I buy it or listen to it again? Can't see it happening.

i'm embarrassed to share a first name with him after hearing that billie jean cover (as much as i heard before turning it off). i might re-shorten christopher to christ just to get some distance.

This album has been a pretty big disappointment. To be honest, I still haven't gotten myself to finish it. I've probably listened to the ~6-7, then just turn it off. There were a handful of songs I enjoyed from Euphoria Morning, but I have trouble even listening to this. When I'm feeling daring I'll check out some of the later ones to hopefully find something to grasp onto.

 

Part of my problem is that his voice is very high in the mix, and it's sadly not what it used to be. I honestly think he needs a fulltime band to help carry some of the music... using it as filler around his songs isn't really cutting it here.
