Let Down-Radiohead

When the music picks up and gets louder after the instrumental break into the 3rd verse, I just get this chill that runs through me, the music just lifts me, and I get lost in it.

Seconded.

Also, the live version of Karma Police they played at Glastonbury 2003 is absolutely amazing. When they get to the "for a minute there, I lost myself" part, the crowd is singing so loud you can barely hear Thom. Feelings like those is what making music is about.

Also, No Surprises and Lucky have special meaning to me. Anyone who has done IB (AP is for little girls) or just come under a ton of unnecessary stress will understand.

While I am not a huge fan of classical music, my father played a piece of music by Edward Elgar called Nimrod.

The music starts very quite, and builds and builds, to a triumphant blast of trumpets, strings, and percussion, only to fade out, the way the piece started.

the (international) noise conspiracy - breakout 2001

Situations symptomatic

Define the objectified and celebrate the phallic

But we are waiting for a sign

To deconstruct this before we run out of time

Remissions purely cosmetic

Seems like our features are cemented and static

So we are waiting for what this culture fears

The end of dress codes, pants/shirts, pink/blue right here

Yeah baby yeah we're gonna breakout

Submissions systematic

Being born under the wrong sign can so fucking tragic

The symptoms are getting out of hand

I'm scared too baby but I can't even begin to understand

Yeah baby yeah we're gonna breakout

Hey sister I know you want to dance too

Without gender hanging over you

Said: just want to be free

Not some billboard advertising dream

Take action; take aim and some slick shoes

Take action; take aim and sing this new blues

Take action; take aim cause we know what to do

Yeah baby yeah we're gonna breakout

Matt Mays - Lost Souls (Solo Acoustic version)

It came comin' from far away

Riding along plains,

Down through the rivers and streams

To visit me in a dream

I left my life behind

Buried it in the sand

Maybe I'll get back someday and dig it up again

Lost souls stay gone for good

To keep a satisfied mind

I saw it comin' from far away

It was fallin' down with the rain

Movin' from the rivers and streams

Shot it right into the vein

I left my life behind

I buried it in the sand

Maybe I'll get back someday and dig it up again

Maybe I'll get back someday and dig it up again

And dig it up again

Lost souls stay lost for good

Keep your satisfied mind

Disappear into the night

Lost souls stay gone

It's a tune about artists and the sacrifices you make for your art, basically.

Edit: Forgot we're actually supposed to talk about the songs a bit. This particular version does way more for me than the full band one with El Torpedo. Especially the chorus; I find whenever I hear it my brain just blocks out everything around me and I almost feel kind of empty and there's this strong sadness when I think about some particular people I know that have lost a lot to continue to make music. I always get these images in my head of certain friends wedged in a corner smoking a cigarette or drinking and I see Picasso's "The Old Guitarist" as if it were right in front of me.

I played that for my final band concert in high school. It's such a great piece.
