Geoff "Corndog" Lloyd

January 31, 2010 06:33 PM UTC

Geoff "Corndog" Lloyd, bassist of the late Matthew Good Band, first graced us with his presence in 2005. Someone had started a thread asking why Geoff had left the band and, surprisingly enough, he answered us. Geoff regaled us with stories of his life and liked to help out and fix bass tabs whenever someone got them wrong. While most of us never got to meet him in person, he always posted in such an intimate manner and made us all feel like one of his close friends.

Lloyd seldom held anything back when he posted on the forums, he was comfortable enough to share a lot of things to us about his life. He often spoke about his wife Lisa and how he cared so much about her for "putting up with his shenanigans."

When he last spoke with us in December, Geoff and his wife had just finished moving back to Ottawa. He told us of his plans to record a new album with a band that his wife and himself had formed, The Slickjacks. Geoff was quite proud of their band and from the music he shared us, still very much enjoyed playing music.

From what he shared with us on the forums, Geoff Lloyd was a funny and, overall, a genuine guy. He never held anything back and he answered all of our silly questions.

Earlier last year, Geoff shared with us that he suffered from the same medical condition as one of our other favourite musicians, one that he said he sometimes struggled to deal with. It is with heavy hearts that we must share with you the news that Geoff Lloyd has passed away. After years of struggling with his inner demons, it seems that they have managed to get the better of him.

We will all miss you Geoff, thank you for your music and thank you for being a part of our community. Our deepest condolences to his wife and his family.

For those of you who live in Vancouver, British Columbia, a memorial fundraising event will be held at The Astoria. A Facebook event has been posted for the event, please check it for more information.
