Bloodhound Gang's Campaign To Change Pennsylvania's State Song

ROYERSFORD, PA (Geffen Records/ www.bloodhoundgang.com) - The song, "Pennsylvania," lyrics and music by Eddie Khoury and Ronnie Bonner, was presented to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1989 on House Bill 200. On November 29, 1990 the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were done a horrible injustice when Governor Robert P. Casey and the General Assembly signed that seemingly innocuous bill into law.

Since that fateful day, Pennsylvania has begun a slide that has seen its cities ridiculed as they fall into despair. Philadelphia has been named No 2 in "America's Fattest Cities" in Men's Fitness Magazine; Lancaster's chaste Amish have been filmed taking drugs and having premarital sex; and the worst, Pittsburgh, provided the background for box office disaster "The Mothman Prophecies."

 

What is the common denominator for this turn-of-events for the people of the Keystone State? Is it the state's poor economy and lack-luster governance? No sir, it is simply the repulsively saccharine clusterfuck that is the current state song!

 

To that end, it is time to throw off the yoke of terror placed upon the people of Pennsylvania. It is time to raise a collective middle finger to Eddie Khoury and Ronnie Bonner. What shall fill the gap? Who can save the Commonwealth? Blessedly, The Bloodhound Gang recorded its own track titled "Pennsylvania." This song, from their upcoming CD "Hefty Fine" (to be released 9/13/05) is a track worthy of being the Pennsylvania state song. It is a song that will return Pennsylvania to the greatness it once had, such greatness as when the Declaration of Independence was signed within its proud borders.

 

Beginning this very day, the Bloodhound Gang, via the efforts of their campaign manager Bam Margera (Viva la Bam, Jackass), will begin the process of collecting enough signatures to compel a state representative to enter a bill into the legislature. That bill will replace Eddie Khoury and Ronnie Bonner's cursed "Pennsylvania" with the Bloodhound Gang's glorious "Pennsylvania."

 

The Bloodhound Gang's Jimmy Pop states, "Pennsylvania sucks. Pennsylvania's current state song sucks. I can change the latter."

 

The Bloodhound Gang will make the state song campaign the central issue at their co-headlining appearance at Rolling Rock Town Fair 6 on Saturday, August 6th in Jennerstown, Pennsylvania. Additionally, in the fall, the band plans to rally students and faculty alike to their crusade during a statewide series of campus appearances.
