Conserative Victories

What's stupid is how the Repubs were using same-sex marriage as a wedge to divide the country. John Kerry is against same sex marriage as well, just that he doesn't feel that imposing his beliefs on everyone with a constitutional amendment is right. During the vice-presidential debate, John Edwards made an interesting point: no state is legally obligated to recognize the marriage of an out of state couple. How ironic.

Oregon, oddly enough is a fairly liberal state and its electoral votes went to Kerry... I'm also pretty sure the ban here passed by the narrowest margin (which is still not very narrow on the whole) of all the other states that had similar ballot measure. This is probably because the gay rights groups tried to win marriage here more than any other state, with the huge amount campaigning and such.

And although I disagree with him on this issue, that is one of the reasons why I think he would have made a better leader than Bush.

i argued this issue with some christian conservatives.

it must be said that you can do just about anything to a gay person in an attempt to make them straight, but it won't work. banning gay marriage is not a preventitive measure at all. the sactity of marriage is already down the drain. we're the ones that implemented this formal ceremony for marriages, so its not like we can't change it.

i cannot believe how willing people are to force their beliefs on other people. if someone os going to become a christian, its between them and God, none of our business. theres nothing we can do for them aside from telling them our christian truth. maybe im a horrible christian for respecting other peoples' beliefs but i'd rather be a crappy christian then pushing it on other people (which is what i would consider to be a crappy christian.)

What pises me off is that Republicans say that gay marrage should be banned because you must "follow the bible", even though these people have zero morals anyway. And another thing i dont get (this goes for christianity as well) is that they are also against abortion. well who has less abortions than gay people?

I still claim that christain republicans are the cause of our downfall.

Fortunately in Spain we now have a socialist party in the power who has already passed in the Parliament a law to allow same-sex marriage with all the rights and benefits (and drawbacks) of different-sex marriages and the allowance of children's adoptions... it is a historic law, passed some weeks ago, which is gonna be implemented from January 2005 on... one of the few countries in Europe with such a progressive law...

and fortunately too, my government wasnt intimidated by christians who complained really hard against such a law... fortunately the government thought of social and human rights and passed the law with the support of most of the political parties represented in my parliament (except the conservative party, of course...)
