no, i discovered them in Vancouver ;) I was in a university trip and i was watching TV one day and in a music program they played a video from MGB... I didnt get the title of the song but it got inside me right in that moment... i went to a music store in Vancouver, i explained the shop assistant the whole video  and he told me that it was from a Canadian band called Matthew Good Band... he showed me the last CD they had from them ("Beautiful midnight") and i bought it...

right there, i paid for it, i got my CD player from my backpack and I went outside the store, i started to listen to it (sitting on a bench) and when I finished listening to it for the first time, I came back to the store and I asked for more CDs from them... I got the previous CDs...

then, coming back to Spain, I downloaded the rest of the albums afterwards from the Internet... I didnt have any other way to get their music (I didnt know of NearFantastica's existence yet) and suddenly, one day, i FORTUNATELY found this forum and I have been able to get everything from them (concerts, B-sides, the rest of the albums...) thanx to many people's help here

imagine how important this forum is for me and how many good friends I have found here...

(sorry to all for this looong message, it sounds like a "movie" but it is exactly the way I discovered Matt)

awww, gosh, i wanna hug ya, juanpe.

;) a pity we are so far away...

honest, all this has never happened to me with any other musician or band... ever in my life... that is why MG(B) means so much to me, because it really got into my heart right from the very beginning I heard Matt's voice, lyrics and music

i totally understand.

that's why i still feel like i can never repay satty.

he could have kept it to himself and hoarded the love but

instead he shared it with the less fortunate and in turn made my life much more appealing.

1999, suspended from school, flipping channels, MuchMusic, Hello Time Bomb. Sweet deals from then on.

i will never be suspended from school again!!!!

YES!!!!!!

So many sweet days were spent though, booted out. Good times. in grade eight, i got suspended for a week when i shoved my principal over a table (it was self-defence, as determined by the arresting officer) and i went to the library every day!! It was ecstasy.

oh dear, i feel sort of out of it.

i barely knew what music was until i turned 15.

my mom never turned the radio on in the car, and she had much and much more music programmed out of the televisions since i was born (for questionable content, im sure), and still does.

i used to flick around while she was gone and saw the future is x-rated when i was probably about 11, and thought it was genius.

anyway, last summer i had the radio on and heard alert status red. probably an odd song to get hooked on, but i did. so i looked it up on the internet, got the lyrics, and got wlrrr a week later, and then everything else since.

oh, how did i live?!

Hearing "Alabama Motel Room"/ "Symbolistic White Walls" at a UNB dorm party back in 1995 was the first time I heard of the MGB. I actually borrowed the CD from that girl and taped it, then went to see them play at the Palace in Halifax later that year on one of their LOTGA tours.

Fuck, that was a long time ago, good memeories,

Why was rock/alt. music so much better back in the mid '90's? Some of my favourite albums came out around that time....

Anyhow,

Cheers,

JK
