I think it's cool cuz you can look at it and be like "oh! it's Meg!" It saves a bunch of milliseconds not having to read people's names.

as for the sign, it ranks right up there with signs i've seen that say "this is a sign" or "warning: there may be water in pool", obvious signs are awesome. . . 7/10 for that.
