Shade's Album Upload Topic

Recommended Posts

Haha okay, let me know if you ever want it.

So what other semi-obscure Canadian talents do you have for me? I have Wintersleep, Matt Mays and Limblifter (and MG obviously). I hear there're other good bands on the label Winterlseep is on?

the trews have their moments. i've almost bought one of their cds a couple times. and joel plaskett is wicked.

to anyone that doesn't want to dl the whole album

Schwab - The Greed

I realized listening to them at work today that what they are doing is kind of a throwback to 60's rock mixed with a modern vibe.

but just download the whole album. you really need to hear the whole thing to get the Vibe and the coolness.

Chris mentioned Joel Plaskett earlier so I've uploaded some stuff from him and the Emergency.

Joel Plaskett Emergency - Down At The Khyber

Released in 2001, this is the first JPE album. Check it out.

Joel Plaskett - La De Da

joelplaskett.jpg

This is Joel Plaskett's most recent solo release and probably the easiest to get into. If you only pick one to download you'll probably enjoy this one more initially.

Joel Plaskett Emergency - Ashtray Rock

(album art attached below as I could not find one via google image search)

I was debating not uploading this one because it just came out a few weeks ago but whatever. It's got a very nostalgic feel to it and it's also available on vinyl so people may feel inclined to pick that up (I definitely plan to next time I see him in concert). This album is a concept album based on a story of two teens in a band that fall in love with the same girl. It's straight up catchy rock for the most part, much like Plaskett's other releases.

Matt Mays - Matt Mays

mini.jpg

This is Matt Mays' debut album. I uploaded his most recent release as well as the Matt Mays + El Torpedo album and it was received pretty well so I figured I'd throw this out for download. It's a lot more folky than the other two albums.

The Tragically Hip - Up To Here

s1392.jpg

This is the first full length release from The Hip and also their best, in my opinion. Enjoy.

Tom Waits - Mule Variations

Released in 1999. Pretty solid album overall. Listen to the last track if nothing else; it's fantastic.

Haha, did I seriously upload some already? I'll check.

Edit: Fuck. Yeah, 2 of those 3 albums (La De Da and Down At The Khyber) were uploaded earlier in the thread. Oh well, at least others get another chance to get them.

If anyone likes the Plaskett and wants more I'll upload Truthfully, Truthfully; that's a sweet Emergency album. I have In Need Of Medical Attention too, which is the first solo Plaskett album and is harder to find now from my understanding.

thanks for down at the khyber, monochrome. i think that's the only one i don't have, and i've thrown enough of my limited money in his direction.

i'll download the tom waits, too.

edit: i know you probably don't, but do any of you have the stabbing westward albums that are not "wither, blister, burn and peel"? the one torrent i found for them is obnoxiously slow.

I would love to listen/have Truthfully Truthfully, and as for the Matt Mays thanks alot for the upload, it was one of the cds stolen from me when my car was broken into, sure is nice to have it back.

EDIT: If my uploads were not so slow, I would upload some music of mine, once I get a faster DSL connection I will upload for sure.

Word, everyone should hear those albums in my opinion anyway.

And if you feel up to it, I'd love to hear more JP/E.

EDIT: The Matt Mays is very country-influenced eh? Haha, I do like it so far though.

Yeah, it's kinda twangy at times for sure. It is really good though; Back Home Weather, Downtown, City of Lakes, and Where Are You Going are all great tracks. It grows on you a lot too after a few listens.

You should hear a Guthries album; Matt Mays played in that band before going solo and they were really country/bluegrass.

Anyway:

Joel Plaskett - In Need Of Medical Attention

f08635fh4da.jpg

First Plaskett solo record. My least favourite album of all the JP/E but it's still pretty good. Some stand-up tracks on here; check out News Of Your Son, I'd Rather Be Deadly Than Dead, and Powerful Lights.

Joel Plaskett Emergency - Truthfully, Truthfully

This is for soundless and audio. It's a pretty sweet album, you guys will love it.

Mirah - Advisory Committee

200px-Advisory_committee.jpg

This is her second album and was released in 2001. Mirah is a singer-songwriter from Philadelphia. Cold, Cold Water is one of my favourite tracks of hers.

Explosions In The Sky - Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever

200px-Those_who_tell_the_truth_shall_die.jpg

Decent band from Austin, Texas (like many other great acts). Pretty rock-y stuff. Apparently this album was rumoured to be linked to the 9/11 terrorist attacks because the original album art showed an airplane on the cover with a caption reading "this plane will crash tomorrow" and the album was released in late August of 2001. People are retarded.
