i've downloaded it from a torrent website. i think im going to order the CD later on, once this craze cools down. cause of their creative commons licensing, downloading it for free isn't illegal. certainly a cool idea. not sure i'd fork over $300 for the full album pack though.

it kept starting to download, then stopping on me. now it says download limit exceeded. is it any good, tim?

you and I don't always see eye to eye when it comes to what NIN is good so I won't answer that.

I will tell you though that Trent says that the download limits will be reset once they have all the new servers added in a few hours.

edit: Hula, I certainly considered the $300 version. I doubt I'd ever open it, but when you consider that the 3 singles released for We're In This Together can't be found on the internet for less than $100, imagine what the $300 version would be worth in a few years.

just a thought

oh i considered it too, dont get me wrong, but while its worth is certainly a motivation, i'd really have to be a fan of "ghosts" to warrant my having such an expansive release of it in my collection.

you've downloaded the album already, right? is there a tracklisting or are the tracks just named ghosts, followed by which I-IV it comes from, and then a track number?

it's good, but it's also monotonous after awhile. i've only listened all the way through once, but i'll try listening to each "ghost" as a separate thing and see how that works out. i appreciate it for what it's doing; trent seems to have been inspired to release "fuck you" after "fuck you" directed at record companies in album format. i like what he's doing, so i'll probably buy it for that reason alone. the music is decent. it's about what one would expect to hear if they've heard year zero and niggy tardust. a few surprises here and there, though.

so, in two days, the $300 packages have all sold out. there were 2,500 copies pressed. therefore, $750,000. that's not even accounting for all the $5,$10, and $75 purchases made in those two days, or in the days to follow. trent reznor is making a lot of money and simultaneously taking a wrecking ball to what's left of the record companies. well done.

spiral members were not even informed of this release, nor were we given first access to purchase the album. wtf? i couldn't even access the store for 2 days. i downloaded a torrent.

that's kindof retarded, but i suppose i understand it to some degree... helps keep with the secrecy of releasing an album like that. i doubt it'll be the same next time... i think this round was just to test the waters. the website did seem very unprepared for the volume of traffic that it got though. i was able to access it fine, although i never actually ordered anything.

and some garage band tracks too

i think i would love that, especially if they try some sort of lofi-but-intense programming competing with garage band esque guitars bass and drums.

The only songs I have from NIN are:

The Frail (Remix)

Right Where It Belongs

Zero-sum

Can anyone extrapolate from this list any other songs that could fit into this category? My sister is a huge NIN fan and has all the CDs so sampling wouldn't be too hard.

You mean songs in a similar vein or style? I'd say The Day the World Went Away (Still or Album Version), Beside You in Time, In This Twilight, A Warm Place, The Fragile, Hurt, Something I Can Never Have, Sanctified, All the Love in the World.

And just because they kick ass, Ruiner, Sin, We're In This Together, Wish (Live), Eraser, I Do Not Want This and The Great Destroyer.

Yeah, you can download Discipline from nin.com

also, a new album seems really likey. Ghosts was completely instrumental and I could easily see Trent putting out an album with full vocals. Perhaps an EP?
