2024 Tour

Recommended Posts

Can't wait to see Matt Good on May 1st in Calgary and one more show in BC!
I look forward to checking out the VIP exclusive cassette too. I'll probably buy an old school tape player, just to see what's on it.
I wonder what the band lineup will look like this tour. Maybe Stu, Blake and Pete will be back.

On a side note, it's refreshing to see that CJAY92 is promoting Matt's concert like crazy. They have nothing but great things to say about Matt, whenever I tune in, and they say things like he is fantastic in concert and worth checking out.

Was wondering the same on who's in the band lineup.  Also, I assume even if the same band, will need an additional guitar player to cover Matt's stuff right?  Envisioning a 5 member lineup with Matt up front.

Just got email for the VIP and it contradicts the info on the purchase of the VIP.

I get health things, but why leas us on to think it's be the other way?

Was clearly worded to imply a one on one photo, since mention of use of your own phone. Email says the usual group shot.

And the wording on getting something autographed reads like "maybe 🤷‍♂️".

I have to say I was really excited to see MG. I had a ticket to see his show in Sault Ste Marie back in 2020 but it got cancelled at the last minute due to COVID (which is reasonable and understandable). The last time I got to see him play was in 2017 for the BM tour. Finally he was coming back to the Sault after years, (on my birthday no less). Being a Nurse who works in a Hospital, I had to do some shift changing in order to be able to make it to the show (2.5 hour drive away from my home), which is difficult considering I work in a Hospital with staffing issues in a retirement town and Drug Treatment town, full of old, mentally ill and very sick people. One day after that, I get a notice that the show has been moved from April 25th to April 14th. There is now no way I can make this show. I am extremely disappointed and I now have to try and get a refund. I know that this stuff happens and these things are out of people's control. It just sucks because I've been a huge fan since 1998. Maybe in a few years I'll get another chance,  this just really sucks.

I admire what you do for work but wanted to share some stories with you.  Years ago I missed out on seeing the Hip. Sure I've seen them before but turns out it was the final time Gord had played in the US and now sadly he is gone.  Chances are you won't remember what you did at work on April 14th 2024. But you would regret not seeing Matt.

If you have the ability to take PTO or a sick day I totally reccomend it. You only live once and you may not even be working the same job in 5 years but you would remember not seeing this show.

It was news to me that Matt wasn’t able to play guitar.  On the flip side I thought it was wonderful his guitar tech finally got to play in the band live, playing Matt’s typical guitar parts.  They all played wonderfully together, with just a minor hiccup on Weapon.  So glad to see Matt back in the saddle.  Lots of classic songs with a new one thrown in.  What I did find very very interesting was that he mentioned the unreleased record is coming out on his birthday.  I was at the Edmonton show.

I was wondering when that new record would be out. He mentioned it during one of the acoustic shows but I'd heard nothing else.

Do we have a list of the bandmates yet?

Not sure who the bassist was I couldn’t catch his name from the introductions.  His sound man, (I think I heard his name as Simon Connolly) for many many years is playing Matt’s guitar parts, Blake Manning on drums, and Jimmy Reid playing guitar.

Can I ask if you ended up with a group photo or an individual one? It definitely was worded to sound like an individual one. Also did you have a chance to get something signed? Other than the signed poster that comes with the package of course.

I guess in the end it isn't that important to me, as this is my first, and likely only time, to see Matt live (I live on the other side of the world and have family commitments and all that). I've been waiting something like 25 years for this opportunity, so a group photo will be just fine as opposed to no photo, but it does seem like they've changed it from what was first stated.

Also thanks enormously for the set list and footage, it's a glimpse of what I'll experience in Campbell River.

VIP was very disorganized. Band stuff was perfect. rest... not really that great. Excuse was emphasized as being first show of the tour.

Facebook post said to show up 3:45pm, email said 3:30. Finally got in around 4-ish? VIP cassette was held up by customs at border. VIP poster hadn't arrived yet (did sometime after regular doors, so got it after the show). Lanyards for the laminate were not there. Photo was group, and mentioned being start of tour, can't get anyone sick type thing. I get Matt's health and all, but that is a known factor and should never have been worded as implied individual.
Was only 10 of us for VIP, but picture being group shot taken on a phone. Then we got to go look at the merch. (which wasn't even fully set up yet)
Because cassette wasnt there yet, we got to get a free t-shirt (our choice of), and cassette would be mailed to us later. I hope the lanyard too since that wasnt there for us.
The tour t-shirt wasn't even there yet when we got our early merch viewing, so i waiting for early entry time to see it and make my pick of a shirt.

The VIP poster is not as nice as the purchasable signed $50 poster. (i'll post picture later, i tried to edit my merch post and it doesnt seem to like to edit).
VIP one is the smaller and just the promo images they are using for this tour as seen in the start of this thread. Other one is same theme but in my opinion much nicer. I just didn't have $50 more to spend.

Since the group was small, Matt signed multiple things and checked if anyone had anything else. I technically got 5 things signed haha

I got my Rodchester Kings cassette signed, and I had said i wasn't sure if it was that to be signed or my Black Market Surgey books and he said lets see them, and then happily signed all of them.

Doors were to be 7, and us VIP were to get early entry. The venue added starting that night their own premium entry tickets that had others early entry with us through a different door. That was it's own gong show, but that happens every show i go to at this venue, they just now spread out their gong show. I think we finally started to get early entry at 7:30 or so. Show then started late, and in between Vilivant and Matthew Good seemed to be some issue with changeover that took a bit, so Matt finally got to stage at 9:30.

As for the show itself. I personally really enjoyed it, and sure there was some flubs here and there, but that is how playing live works (and makes it fun), and Matt not playing guitar is a bit of a learning curve/change for him. During Weapon he did start wrong, and was corrected and restarted. It was near the end of the night, i'm sure any meds for his nerve issues mixed with having a good time/drinking was starting to hit more.
I assume Alert Status Red was a cut for time and not the speculation everyone is doing on reddit, and my (now private) Weapon video on youtube, because i'm pretty sure there is a 11pm noise curfew because shows never go past 11 there.

My highlight of the night was Symbolistic White Walls full band! And getting to hear Daylight twice with the news that that album (ep?) comes out on Matt's birthday. Although that is a Saturday this year, so maybe the day before?

Yikes, I hope things go more smoothly and on schedule towards the end of the tour. I had an email with a time change for VIP just recently. I guess I'll just get there early and enjoy the wait. I hope to buy some merch. Much cheaper to buy there and take home than to ship overseas.

It's nice that they let you choose a free shirt to help make up for the disorganisation. Must remember to bring a poster tube thingy with me so it doesn't get crushed in my baggage. Bit crap about the venue doing their own premium tickets. Also disappointing it's a group shot but end of the day I am grateful for the opportunity of this experience regardless. Signing multiple items is awesome. I don't know how big my group will be but I hope I can get at least 1 thing personally signed. What to transport such a distance is the problem. Maybe one of the old post cards or something. I would love to have my Avalanche tour poster signed (my absolute favourite MG thing I own) but it would likely disintergrate if I attempted to take it.

Love Alert Status Red so I hope he has time to include that in Campbell River. I have got zero idea what everyone is speculating so I will head on over to Reddit to check it out. There are sound curfews here in Australia that have cut short concerts before, it sucks. Disappointing you've had to make a video private. I have experienced his concerts only secondhand from fan footage for so many years, and have appreciated each and every one of them.

I've never done VIP with an artist before and have little idea what to expect, so your post has helped a lot, thank you. My hope is to be able to thank him and get something signed, without my nerves turning me into a blathering idiot unable to articulate a simple sentence.
