Arrows Of Desire

Recommended Posts

Listening to Garden of Knives right now, I couldn't resist! Love the beginning. Too bad it's fairly low quality, but I can't complain.

So far the production sounds very different than anything he's done before.

EDIT - The ending is very creepy.

The stream versions of Garden of Knives and Arrows of Desire are much better than the samples, but they are still compressed a bit, and quite tinny. Very excited for the CD.

EDIT - Really liking Arrows of Desire so far (the song). I like the main verses quite a bit. These 2 songs have me very excited for the CD. Garden is very different, and while Arrows sounds more familiar, it's very upbeat sounding.

What I've noticed is that both tracks sound very rich, there isn't a lot of dead space, there is a lot going on.

I'm having a hard time with the lyrics for Arrows of Desire, here's my best guess:

On a ruined wind

a sea I promise

right in front of you

sell the bombs

to crash the heart

those gates, so irremovable

Oh we can't beg

we will bend again

oh we can't beg

but we will bend again

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

oh in thin air, we lie in wait oh

we lie in wait.

hell to lose weight

for the work to come

and then to hell with you

over the fire, a time

the bear will throw us below, away (??)

Here's my golden spear

Here's my goldie (??) spare (??)

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

oh in thin air, we lie in wait oh

we lie in wait

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

oh in thin air, we lie in wait oh

we lie in wait

we lie in wait

Garden of Knives is definitely one of his best tracks ever for me. Here are the lyrics I hear:

My love screams, yeah I like the second half

All in between honeycomb legs I'll break your back

The more that you want it the more that you take it

The more that you want it the more that you break it

No matter where we are

I'll let you know

No matter where the sun strikes us

Knives will grow

Hear them horses come to mow the road

Feel the air burning like your lungs could just explode

The more that you want it the more that you take it

The more that you want it the more that you break it

No matter where we are

I'll let you know

No matter where the sun strikes us

Knives will grow

This is what I get from Arrows of Desire. Similar to yours with some minor changes:

On a ruined wind the sea I promised right in front of you

Silver bombs to crash the heart those gates so irremovable

Oh we can beg we will bend again

Oh we can beg but we will bend again

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

Oh we lie in wait

Hell to lose weight for the work to come and then to hell with you

Over the fire, a time the bear will throw us below way

Here's my golden spear

Here's my cold dispair

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

Oh in thin air, we lie in wait

Oh we lie in wait

On a ruined wind

to see our promise right in front of you

silver barbs to crash the heart

those gates so irremovable

Oh we can beg

that we will bend again

Up in thin air, we lie in wait

Held to loose

wait for the word to come and then to hell with you

over the fire a time to bear what those below await

here's my golden spear

here's my cold despair

Up in thin air we lie in wait

Fantastic work on the music as always Matt.

If you start hosting tabs on the site along with lyrics I can probably contribute some bass tabs for the album.

In terms of the Arrows album page:

Release date is September 24

Had It Coming is the first single

Had It Coming/We're Long Gone released as an extended single

Arrows Of Desire/Garden of Knives were debuted on Indie88

I want to say that Guns of Carolina was played acoustically on the radio but I can't be totally sure

VIP ticket holders for the upcoming tour will receive a copy of the album on vinyl

Milos tweeted a picture of a bunch of signed CDs, likely for pre-orders

Anthony took some video of the recording sessions and one of the songs shown in the videos was Had It Coming (Jimmy recording the solo and Milos recording some bass is what I remember for sure)

So I gather we nailed the lyrics to Garden of Knives? ;-)

Yes Guns of Carolina was played acoustically on CFOX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocznfDQnAKo.

The second single from is Arrows of Desire.

Had It Coming = pretty blah song, a bit weak. Why does Matt sing/talk with a weird folksy accent haha? For a single, a predictable choice, since it's upbeat and a little catchy with a hook (that doesn't quite hook). Record company marketers/managers seem to pick the safe but blah 1st singles for Matt. In A Place For Lesser Men from LOES was easily one of the weaker songs on a freaking amazing album. Music execs are afraid of horns (Zero Orchestra not the first single??), afraid of songs over 3-4 minutes long, afraid of something that might sound a bit "country" because it may have a slide guitar, even if such songs are damn good. Stairway to Heaven wasn't even released as a single because it was 8 minutes long...as if people don't like listening to that song on the radio. So Matt & Alan Cross were right about Bohemian Rhapsody and the like.

We're Long Gone = better. At least it has some balls and passion behind it.

Garden of Knives = sounds pretty brilliant. The ending was awesome. Gives me a lot of hope for the album, like when Matt streamed Non Populus on his website before LOES was released after the underwhelming In a Place of Lesser Men single kinda bombed with fans.

Arrows of Desire = Good song, catchy, moreso catchy than Had It Coming. Good choice for a single.

btw, really liked the Pixies and Deftones song mad put on his radio playlist with Alan Cross. A few other good tunes too. The Wilco tune had a badass guitar solo. Fun listening to musicians and DJ's who know their rock music history.

MapleMusic.com has autographed copies of the album for the first 200 pre-orders.

I believe I got one. I could have spent less and ordered the CD on Amazon.com but I figured what the hell. I didn't get the LOES signed copy and I was kinda bummed about that. I know you could say that it's not as special as having him sign it in person, which is partly true, but I can bring a different album instead in case I ever meet him after a show again in the future. S'all good.
